Summary

The principal data engineer is responsible for driving a culture of data availability and scalability at DaySmart. This hands-on role requires expertise with real-time data streaming and big data techniques and systems. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work with engineers and business leaders worldwide, and a proven record of solving business problems with data systems in a time and cost-effective manner with high quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the transition to a Data-First culture at DaySmart
• Work with product, architects, and engineers to understand product-related outcomes and design and implement data systems that allow DaySmart to simplify and scale its application infrastructure
• Create patterns to regularly move product data into the DaySmart data lake and work with delivery team to implement these patterns to improve visibility and decision-making across the organization
• Lead the effort to establish and maintain a data catalog to allow for the simple discovery and usage of data across the organization
• Build a mechanism to score data quality to help drive data improvement initiatives as well as guide data consumers on the proper use of available data
• Create a pattern and system for customers to access their data and solve complex data needs, and work to standardize these concepts across the organization

Requirements

• 8 years of professional data engineering experience
• Highly proficient in data engineering technologies such as data-streaming (i.e., Kafka, Kinesis), batch data processing (i.e., Spark, Glue Data Studio, AWS Batch, AWS Step Functions), data cataloging (i.e., AWS Glue Data Catalog), data visualization tools (i.e., Tableau, Power BI, Excel)
• Proven track record of designing and building databases for online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP) systems
• Experience with extract, transform, and load (ETL) solutions for importing very large customer data sets and migrating data sets from legacy to next generation systems
• Proficient in many multi-tenant database architectures with the ability to reason about the tradeoffs, limitations, and merits of the alternatives
• Extensive understanding of agile development concepts
• Proficient with automated load, performance and scalability testing within a CI/CD pipeline
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Strong team skills and a desire to innovate and push for organizational change
