The Medication Technician performs a number of functions to support medical staff and assist with the care of patients living in Community Housing residences. These tasks include checking up on patients and listening to their concerns, updating medical records, and administering medication. The Medication Technician will possess a high school diploma or GED. The Medication Technician must also possess and maintain Medication Technician Certification in Maryland. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, early mornings, and rotating shifts.
Duties
1. Administer the correct medications and dosages to patients daily.
2. Perform regular patient check-ups to make sure their symptoms aren’t getting worse and to monitor the effects of medication.
3. Report and resolve any adverse effects as quickly as possible for the well-being of the patient to the Nurse Manager and or Delegating Nurse.
4. Make note and report any changes in the patient’s condition.
5. Assist in obtaining medical histories.
6. Collaborate with Nurse Manager, Delegating Nurse nurses, or medical staff regarding any changes to a patient’s condition or amendments to their required medication.
7. Report to the Nurse Manager, Delegating Nurse nurses, or medical staff If patients have any concerns about their symptoms or complaints about how they’re feeling.
8. Take vital signs for patients.
9. Document as appropriate on the Medication Administration Record.
10. Assist with the maintenance of medical records.
11. Accompany/transport patients to medical appointments as needed.
12. Assist with the delivery of medications to Community Housing residences.
13. Other duties as assigned.
