DARR EQUIPMENT is Hiring a Lube Tech for Forklifts Near Waco, TX

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Service Manager, this entry-level position is responsible for the repairing, rebuilding and servicing of heavy construction and lift truck equipment in accordance with recommendations and specifications published by equipment manufacturers.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
1. Removes and installs guards, tracks, roller frames, cabs, masts, forks, and other external parts.
2. Removes and installs engines, transmissions, steering clutches, drive axles and other major components.
3. Cleans parts with petroleum-based solvents or other similar cleaning methods.
4. Assembles and disassembles components as assigned or directed, and performs limited machine diagnoses. Evaluates worn and used parts, and when necessary, orders new and rebuilt parts from parts books, shop parts personnel and/or outside vendors.
5. Operates and tests equipment after repair and makes limited machine adjustments.
6. Completes assigned service reports needed to document parts and labor expenses and repair methodology.
7. Performs miscellaneous housekeeping duties including sweeping and mopping floors, painting shelves, racks and aisle markers, etc.

KNOWLEDGE:
The incumbent must possess a high school diploma (or GED equivalency), be able to read and write and have basic math and mechanical skills. A two-year vocational education certificate or equivalent knowledge is preferred. This position requires a minimum of 12-18 months of experience to reach competency.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  • Power-assisted and ordinary hand tools and specialized shop tools (impact wrenches, hammers, ratchet and open-ended wrenches, pry bars, pliers, etc.) to assemble, disassemble and repair equipment and components.
  • Overhead hoists and cranes, as well as lift trucks, to lift and maneuver equipment and components.
  • Parts washers to clean components and parts.
  • Pressure gauges, voltmeters, ohmmeters, tetragauges and other test instruments to diagnose malfunctions and failures and ensure proper machine performance.

THINKING/DECISION MAKING:
In this position, thinking/decision making requirements are moderate. The incumbent is capable of troubleshooting routine problems and using service manuals to determine appropriate repair procedures and using service manuals to determine appropriate repair procedures, but still refers most problems (60%) for supervisory consultation and resolution. The incumbent is expected to continue attending training classes, completing skill certification tasks and gaining increasingly responsible experience.
At all times, the incumbent must be aware of proper lifting techniques and other safety factors (wearing personal protection equipment, inspecting personal tools, following warning labels, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent must have normal visual acuity to read service manuals, work orders, and related materials as well as displays on testing and diagnostic equipment. The position requires the ability to stand, walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and crawl in varying amounts and varying intervals depending on the immediate task. This is a physically demanding job, requiring the frequent ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to workbench levels, sometimes without the use of material handling equipment. The ability to push and pull weights of more than 50 pounds in confined areas and from awkward positions is required. Sufficient manual dexterity, grip and upper body strength to properly use common hand tools and power tools is a necessity. The incumbent is expected to have no conditions which prohibit the wearing of required personal protection equipment such as safety glasses/goggles, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, welding hoods/face shields, or respirators. Incumbent is required to hear and communicate effectively to relay information and speak effectively with co-workers and customers. The incumbent must possess no allergic or other conditions which would prohibit routine exposure to commonly-used chemicals and materials.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The position involves exposure to extremes in temperature and weather conditions. The incumbent is required to work in areas which are dusty, greasy and slippery and require careful footing. This position often involves exposure to high noise conditions (in excess of 85dBA), as well as frequent exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
The nature of this position requires the incumbent to purchase and maintain a personal inventory of power-assisted and ordinary hand tools (impact wrenches, hammers, ratchet and open-ended wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.).

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
