Job Description:


Summary/Function:

As the Corporate Controller at D.A. Davidson, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing our financial operations. You will be responsible for managing the Accounting Close, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and Payroll functions. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of our financial processes. This is a leadership position that requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong managerial skills, and the ability to drive automation initiatives within our accounting environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for effectively communicating and presenting financial information to the Audit Committee and liaising with auditors and regulators and ensuring adequate internal controls over financial reporting.
Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required and an MBA, or a Masters in Accounting or Finance, preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a Broker Dealer setting
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
  • Series 27 license required within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in supervising and developing a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting systems and software
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively present financial information to the Audit Committee
  • Experience in interacting with auditors and regulators, ensuring compliance, and addressing inquiries.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining adequate internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and FINRA and SEC rules and regulations pertaining to financial reporting for a financial services firm.
Duties:
  • Lead and supervise the Accounting Close, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and Payroll teams, fostering a collaborating and high-performing work environment.
  • Oversee the month-end, quarterly and year-end financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and the firm’s internal auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Drive automation initiatives to streamline and improve accounting processes, reducing manual work, and enhancing efficiency.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to senior management, supporting decision-making and long-term financial planning.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify areas for improvement, implementing cost-saving measures where applicable.
  • Stay current on changes in accounting regulations and ensure the company’s compliance.
  • Evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of accounting systems and recommend upgrades or enhancements as needed.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets and data.
  • Effectively communicate and present financial information to the Audit Committee, ensuring transparency and alignment with company objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for auditors and regulators.
  • Direct the preparation of supporting schedules as requested by the Companies’ independent auditors and regulatory agencies for the annual audits. Maintain an effective working relationship with these parties by explaining accounting procedures, answering inquiries, and providing and/or obtaining information.
  • Manage, direct and control personnel management activities for the Accounting team.
