Curtis Institute of Music is Hiring a Remote Associate Director of Marketing

Job title: Associate Director of Marketing

Reports to: Senior Director of Marketing

Department: Digital Strategy and Innovation

Status: Full-time, Exempt

The Associate Director of Marketing raises the profile and awareness of Curtis and its musicians, especially in collaboration with the Communications and Public Affairs, Musician Life Cycle, and Touring Office teams; explores and creates opportunities for optimized content creation; advances key marketing efforts with a focus on digital channels; facilitates projects with internal and external stakeholders; fosters long-term engagement opportunity with audiences; and ensures best practice standards and editing expertise across the department. This position will work as part of a highly productive marketing team responsible for owned and paid channels.

With guidance from the senior director of marketing, this position is responsible for leading and executing Curtis’s digital marketing strategies, driving brand awareness, and optimizing online presence to achieve our business objectives. As part of a centralized marketing department, the role will oversee a digital marketing specialist and regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Key Areas of Work

    Digital Marketing

    • Actively manage content across owned channels (website, social, email)
    • Oversee the day-to-day management of website; regular content and SEO optimization and coordination with stakeholders across the school.
    • Manages social media channels to engage audiences, align with branding, and effectively meet strategic goals; paid and organic planning for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more.
    • Develop and execute email marketing plans—ensuring engaging content, segmentation, and best practices—to drive engagement, nurture leads, and increase conversion rates.
    • Generate original social media content that supports Curtis’s strategic goals and steward the development and execution of proposed initiatives in collaboration with colleagues.
    • Monitor analytics across digital platforms, providing recommendations and reporting.
    • Write interesting, creative, short form copy that connects and creates impact on a variety of channels, in line with institutional style.

    Marketing Management

    • Lead and manage a marketing specialist and student workers; providing guidance, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
    • Identify opportunities, plan, and develop content for prospective students, audiences, donors, alumni, and touring partners in collaboration with musician lifecycle, artistic production, archives, touring, and artist management teams.
    • Support central marketing campaigns, and all cross-departmental marketing efforts.
    • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the school, external agency partners, and vendors.
    • Participate in event-related duties, such as greeting audience members and other event support as needed.
    • Stay ahead of digital marketing trends, and bring forward new and engaging ideas.
    • Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Communications to ensure timely information is distributed effectively.
    • Work with Senior Director of Marketing to develop marketing objectives to support departmental goals, campaign priorities, and schoolwide performances and activities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications and Skills

    Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

    • Minimum of 5 years practice in marketing functions, management experience preferred
    • Working knowledge of classical music and education; Previous work in the performing arts, especially classical music, industry highly desired
    • Proven track record of developing and managing social media campaigns
    • Excellent and clear writer, experience adapting to brand styles
    • Knowledge of classical music and ability to communicate the mission, goals, and activities of the school with credibility, passion, and enthusiasm
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams; Organized, with a customer service mindset
    • Creative thinker, strong collaborator, and enthusiastic team player
    • Familiarity with interpreting communications data analytics
    • Experience with Google Analytics and use tracking codes for marketing campaigns
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. Experience with Mailchimp, Hootsuite, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and Raiser’s Edge (or similar products) desired

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    • Job is located in Philadelphia
    • Hybrid work structure is available
    • Exertional requirements are routine office environment

    • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.
  • Compensation and Benefits

    • $75,000 – $80,000 gross annually salary, commensurate with experience
    • The Curtis Institute of Music offers a number of perks and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, basic term life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and short and long-term disability insurance, supplemental insurance options, and parental leave to eligible employees.
