Curtis Institute of Music is Hiring a Remote Marketing Consultant, Advertising

Reports to: Senior Director of Marketing

Department: Digital Strategy and Innovation

Status: Contract position; Temporary (open to annual contract)

The Curtis Institute of Music is a globally renowned music conservatory in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse neighborhood. Our mission is to educate and train exceptionally gifted young musicians to engage a local and global community through the highest level of artistry. We are tuition-free with only 160 students. At Curtis, the world’s most talented young musicians become the leading artists, creators, and innovators in classical music.

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to join our team on a contract basis, providing essential support for our advertising and media planning functions in the coming year. This position will play a key role in the ideation and launch phases of a robust centennial campaign for the 2024–25 academic year, and the rollout of a new brand identity for Curtis. Working as part of a highly productive centralized marketing team, the Marketing Consultant’s projects will support brand, enrollment, alumni engagement, development, touring, and performance initiatives.

  • Key Areas of Work

    Advertising and Marketing

    • Over the duration of contract, support advertising strategies to effectively reach target audiences, engagement goals, and increase brand visibility for Curtis as we approach a centennial.
    • Plan and facilitate advertising campaigns across various channels, including digital (such as search engines, social media) and traditional (such as print, radio).
    • Manage advertising tactics through ideation, implementation, optimization, and reporting; to meet central and cross-department strategic goals.
    • With direction from senior director of marketing, coordinate media buys, facilitate creative production, and asset delivery.
    • Organize, track, and assist with replacing assets and materials to support a new brand identity.
    • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify target demographics, consumer insights, and advertising opportunities.
    • Monitor campaign performance, analyze data, and build reports with actionable insights.
    • Build and maintain relationships with advertising agencies, media vendors, and industry partners to leverage partnerships and negotiate favorable advertising rates.

    Project Management

    • Vendor management for media placements, creative design partners, and production logistics.
    • Support departmental budget tracking; invoice processing and credit card expense reconciliation.
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, external agency partners and vendors.
    • Work with Senior Director of Marketing to develop marketing objectives to support departmental goals, campaign priorities, and schoolwide performances activities.
    • Support marketing colleagues with high-priority projects including mass mailings, season launch/subscription fulfillment, and performance updates.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications and Skills

    Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

    • Minimum of three (3) years profession marketing, media, or advertising experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, business, or a related field
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
    • Working knowledge of classical music and/or education industry; Previous work in the performing arts, especially classical music, preferred
    • Strong project management skills; Organized, with a customer service mindset
    • Creative thinker, strong collaborator, and enthusiastic team player
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    • Consulting Agreement terms to be determined with select candidate
      • Full time preferred; part time option available
      • Hybrid work structure preferred; fully remote option available
    • Exertional requirements are routine office environment
    • Some night and/or weekend work required as needed
    • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire.
    • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.
