Current is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our progressive and dynamic fast-paced controls and automation team. These are exciting times - our industry and user expectations are changing and so are we! We are developing the next generation of world class Internet of Things (IoT) connected lighting controls and applications. This is a hands-on role that will directly contribute to the development and expansion of our cutting edge, cloud connected IoT applications and offerings with the latest hardware and software technologies and tools. You will be part of our fast-growing innovative technology design center to be located in Round Rock, TX, a hi-tech hub north of Austin.

We are looking for a talented and creative problem solver to design and deliver hardware products. You will be involved in the complete hardware development life cycle, from product concept to deployment in the field. This will require a strong technical background and a high degree of collaboration among highly talented, cross-functional, and geographically dispersed development teams. You will work closely with industry-best product owners, hardware and software engineers, and other development team members to understand the business needs, propose and develop end-to-end solutions. 

Essential Functions

•  Lead and directly contribute to design and development of high-performing and reliable hardware for embedded systems using microcontrollers, sensors, and analog/digital interface circuits.
• Lead and directly contribute to design and development of high-performing and reliable production programmers and functional testers.
• Assess and distill marketing requirements into producible and cost-effective products
• Oversee product regulatory process and certifications for UL, FCC, and other agencies as necessary.
• Support new products through release to manufacturing and field deployment
• Research, assess and adapt to new technologies necessary for future enhancements of products.
• Review, organize, and maintain technical design documentation for hardware products.
• Participate in technical design reviews with stakeholders.
• Manage, sustain, and facilitate product design change requests and change orders.
• Protect intellectual property through patent disclosures and applications.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or closely related discipline. 
• 5 years of analog and digital hardware development experience
• 5 years of experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout and schematic capture tools (Altium and PADS)
• 5 years of hands-on knowledge of hardware development for embedded systems including analog and digital components.
• Hands on knowledge of various standard communication protocols and topologies, including Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485, SPI
• Sound understanding of Agile development processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10 years of analog and digital hardware development experience
• 10 years of experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout and schematic capture tools (Altium and PADS)
• 10 years of hands-on knowledge of hardware development for embedded systems including analog and digital components.
• Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)
• Experience developing firmware for embedded systems
• Knowledge of security vulnerability mitigation for embedded devices
• Experience with wireless networks including Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth Mesh
• Experience working with geographically dispersed teams

• Expert knowledge of best-practice hardware engineering methodologies, processes and technologies
• Expert ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to conquer complex hardware design challenges
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Time management and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities.

Compensation

The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is $110,000-$139,000.
