Overview: The cost accountant position is responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing and Production costing analysis and inventory for all business locations. The senior cost accountant is responsible for comparing standard cost to actual cost and identifying and explaining variances by product line, part number and production jobs. The cost accountant must also work closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances and adjust Bills of Materials (BOM’s) as needed and support the annual cost roll process.
Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain cost accounting system that ensures accurate costing
2. Review and analyze standard and actual costs for variances and prepare reports
3. Update standard costs and ensure accuracy in the Bill of Materials (BOM’s)
4. Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services to determine root cause, trends, and effects on costs
5. Lead study and data collection to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor
6. Responsible for account reconciliation of physical inventories and cycle counts
7. Prepare periodic inventory reserves reconciliation, analyzing inventory for risk, and monitoring with support from internal stakeholders
8. In conjunction with Senior Director of Operations Finance, lead the standardization of costing methodology across manufacturing facilities
9. Assist in month-end and year-end closing by analyzing inventory and preparing supplemental reports as needed; including preparation of ad-hoc reports in response to questions regarding costs and profitability
10. Work on special projects as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and three (3) to five (5) years pf manufacturing cost accounting experience is preferred. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required:
1. Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases
2. Significant hands-on experience using COPA module of SAP ERP system (S4 HANA a plus)
3. Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
4. Understanding of U.S. GAAP as it applies to a manufacturing environment is required
5. Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
6. Extraordinary interpersonal skills to work in conjunction with other departments.
7. Must be a team player who also works well independently.
8. Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations.
Compensation
The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is $75,000-$92,000.
