**POSITION SUMMARY**
**The Security Officer is responsible for creating and promoting a safe and welcoming, environment at Cumberland Heights. This position reports directly to the Security Supervisor. The Security Officer must be able to interpret and take appropriate actions regarding conditions and incidents relating to safety and security on campus and off campus sites.**

**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
- **Provides a prompt and courteous customer service oriented response to patients, families, and visitors to the campus(es)**
- **Provides the presence and actions necessary to promote a safe and security environment by**
**a) maintaining awareness of patient schedule and campus activities;**
**b) identifying and addressing any issues relating to safety and security;**
**c) routinely patrolling each building, parking lot, and smoking area; and**
** d) communicating regularly and effectively with medical/clinical staff.**
- **Completes Daily Activity Report (DAR) that includes key/phone transfers, pass downs, shift activities, and any unusual findings.**
- **Completes Incident Reports regarding any event outside of normal operations before end of assigned shift.**
- **Responds to emergency situations, according to established policies and procedures, including acting as the designated First Responder in emergency codes.**
- **De-escalates and manages physical and verbal altercations, according to established policies and procedures, focusing on using the least amount of physical force that is necessary, as well as on ways to prevent future recurrence.**
- **Maintains current certifications as required of an armed security officer.**
- **Owns and maintains personal firearms and other mechanical restraining devices, according to manufacturers instructions.**
- **Ensures that firearms are locked and secured when on duty, unless otherwise authorized to be retrieved and carried while on duty.**
- **Participates in debriefing regarding any takedown situation.**
- **Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.**
- **Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.**
- **Reacts productively to change.**
- **Performs other duties as assigned.**
**QUALIFICATIONS**

****EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE****
**High school diploma required; Associates degree preferred. Minimum of one (1) year experience as an armed security officer required with experience working in healthcare-related field preferred. Valid Tennessee Armed Security Guard/Officer preferred with ability to certify required. Successful completion of required training courses for each firearm to be carried as well as chemical and electronic restraining devices (i.e., MACE, pepper foam, expandable baton, taser, stun guns, handcuffs, firearm); APPS training preferred. Additional training is required in CPR/First Aid, Sudden Death In-Custody Syndrome, and Crisis Prevention & Intervention. Valid Tennessee drivers license is required.**

**Must be in good physical health and able to pass fitness-for-duty testing post-job offer; ability to lift up to 75 pounds; ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time; ability of constant use of manual dexterity, coordination, mobility, visual discrimination, hearing and concentration; ability to run or climb stairs in rapid manner; ability to lift and/or restrain individuals using strength; ability to make decisions under stressful conditions; ability to drive a motor vehicle or other related vehicle; ability to speak, read and write in English; excellent customer service and interviewing skills; excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; superior organizational skills for managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects; superior ability to work independently; proficient in use of PC; If recovering, two years of verifiable abstinence required with five years preferred and active participation in the appropriate Twelve Step Program preferred.**
****WORK ENVIRONMENT****
**Position requires both internal and external occupational setting. Internal setting involves everyday risks or discomforts of an office environment, such as prolonged sitting or use of computers. External setting involves exposure to weather conditions (i.e., cold, heath, rain, snow or ice) and routine exposure to the possibility of occupational injury or infection which requires special safety & BBP precautions. Weekend and evening work may be required. Occasional travel may be required.**
