Your Role:

The Manager of Health and Safety is key to CEA CAPA’s organizational commitment to student safety and wellbeing. As a member of the HSSA team, you will work closely with a dynamic global team to help educate, empower and support students who may face additional challenges either before they go abroad or while they are in their program location. Through personalized predeparture HSSA advising, dedicated onsite case management, collaborative problem-solving using a kind and reasonable approach to issues, and effective communications, we aim to increase accessibility to education abroad, improve the student experience, and ultimately enhance student safety and wellbeing abroad.

This is a full-time remote or hybrid position.

What You’ll Do:

The duties listed below are not all inclusive of what you may be responsible for. Other duties may be assigned to assist with achieving certain goals, meeting expectations and supporting business needs.Domestic or international travel may be required to attend strategic meetings, professional conferences, and/or assist in an emergency.

Predeparture Advising:

  • Communicate via email, phone, text or video calls with participants, their support network or home institutions who have questions regarding various topics including health, wellness, accommodations, safety, student affairs, and security while abroad on a CEA CAPA program.
  • Review participant Health Information Forms and advise participants on availability of services, support or residential life accommodations abroad.
  • Assist in development of Care Plans for participants with elevated health concerns.
  • Serve as resource and support for escalated or complex questions or situations related to health, safety and wellbeing concerns, international insurance, student advising and cases. 
  • Participate in virtual or in-person predeparture orientations, information sessions, or webinars, where required, to discuss health, safety, student affairs or wellness concerns.
  • Oversee management of predeparture materials to enhance student success abroad.

Student Case Management:· 

  • Lead US-based response and communication for escalated HSSA cases in designated regions or as assigned.
  • Monitor predeparture and onsite HSSA student concern cases and maintain open communication with team members to ensure timely follow-up is occurring with students. Inform students' emergency contacts (home institution and/or personal) of case status, where required.
  • Maintain detailed, organized and thorough case notes and documentation for all HSSA student concern cases.
  • Serve as member of the Adjudication Committee upon request.
  • Support CEA CAPA emergency and crisis response as a member of the Crisis Management Team through investigation, communication, note taking, record keeping, or other duties as required.
  • Lead the US-based Emergency Phone Team by coordinating schedules, implementing trainings, and being on call for at least one week per month (per year) to support the US Emergency Phone Team.

Collaboration, Research and Training: 

  • Meet regularly with onsite team members to discuss student cases and support needs, provide training and resources, and better understand process abroad.
  • Serve as HSSA representative in pan-organizational departmental meetings and working groups.
  • Assist with HSSA policy and process creation, updates, implementation, and training.
  • Create regular reports with HSSA data to identify trends, patterns, service improvements or other related to student behavior and concerns to improve best practices.
  • Conduct research in the field of higher education and international education related to HSSA to inform CEA CAPA policies, procedures, and best practices. 
  • Lead pan-organizational training on various HSSA topics or key areas of interest.

Partnership Engagement:

  • Lead meetings with institutional partners regarding student cases, HSSA policies and procedures, or HSSA services.
  • Develop and implement pre-departure orientations, webinars, or other content as requested.
  • Meet with student support networks (i.e. parents/guardians) upon request or when escalated issues arise regarding HSSA matters.
  • Represent CEA CAPA at professional conferences and events to present on HSSA topics, communicate about and promote HSSA services, and strengthen relationships with institutional partners.

Starting Salary: $60,000-65,000

What Makes a Great Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in international education, preferably in Health and Wellness, Student Safety, Student Affairs or Services, or other relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experiencing with managing emergency phone calls and assisting in emergency situations.
  • International study, intern and/or work experience required.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to reconcile differences in a way that reflects a collaborative approach and sensitivity to different views and cultures.
  • Excellent communication skills and high comfort level with discussing sensitive topics via phone calls, video calls, email and/or text messages.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, execute multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and understand diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to handle private information in an appropriate and mature manner, maintaining established data privacy regulations.
  • Tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity and last-minute changes to what you had planned to do on any given day.
  • Familiarization with Microsoft Outlook suite, Salesforce, Canvas, video conferencing, and online research.
