DEFINITION
Under general supervision, provide technical, difficult, complex and/or specialized fiscal work including tax and revenue billing and collection, payroll, accounts payable, and other financial, accounting and/or budgetary support in a centralized or departmental setting; complies, inputs, and maintains a variety of financial data; prepares a variety of reports and records; and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no supervision of staff. May provide training to less experienced staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the technical/specialist level in the accounting support series. Positions in this class require a definable body of knowledge and skill and/or have specific programmatic responsibility which are normally gained through a combination of technical education above the high school level and significant on-the-job experience. While responsibilities may vary, depending upon the department to which assigned, all positions are characterized by the performance of technical and complex accounting and financial support work, requiring the regular use of independent judgment and initiative. This class is distinguished from the Accountant and Auditor class series in that the latter are professional-level classes, requiring the knowledge of accounting theory and broad practices and the ability to install and implement improved accounting systems and processes.
