Counseling In Schools is Hiring a Part-Time Temporary High School Art Therapist/ Social Worker LCAT/ LMSW Near Brooklyn, NY

CIS is a community-based organization, founded in 1986 with a mission to bring quality counseling to students and their families in New York City Public Schools. The philosophy of CIS is to identify, develop, and reinforce the strengths and resilience inherent in everyone. We work from a multiple perspective approach, assessing each child's developmental, social, emotional, and cultural viewpoint. All our programs serve to support the development of each child so they may experience academic success on their way to becoming more productive members of their communities.

Counseling in Schools (CIS) is seeking applicants to fulfill a temporary Counselor leave replacement role at a high school located on the Erasmus Hall Campus, Brooklyn, The position is for 3 days per week beginning immediately through June 2024. Services will include the temporary provision of mental health counseling, wellness initiatives, and crisis intervention using a social-emotional framework and using individual, small and large group and family modalities. There are creative arts therapy interns on-site and using the school as a field placement who would require collaborative support from the applicant on Tuesdays.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s level degree (LCAT, LMSW, LMHC, or other mental health related degree)
  • Experience with evidence based clinical assessments and interventions for individual, group and family sessions
  • Experience and familiarity with clinical documentation (records are both written and digital)
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer and data entry skills
  • Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, motivated
  • Works collaboratively in a team-based setting and cross-functionally among all stakeholders 
  • Experience in school-based programs preferred (grades 9-12)
  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation.

Additional Info:

  • This position is an in-person leave replacement position starting immediately through 6/27/24. 
  • This is an hourly position paid at $40 per hour.
  • The ideal schedule is 3 days per week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday following the NYC DOE school calendar.
