Counseling In Schools is Hiring a Mental Health Counselor in High School Near New York, NY

Job Description

Counseling in Schools (CIS) is seeking a Master’s level mental health provider of multi-tiered counseling services to students, families, and the school community in a transfer high school setting in Midtown West, Manhattan, NY. 

Applicants will have a Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field. CIS provides regular clinical supervision and professional development to all clinical staff. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

The counselor will work as part of a team of school professionals to support students, many of whom have histories of complex life experiences often leading to chronic absenteeism and the subsequent disciplinary actions, with increasing self-awareness, advocacy, and agency; developing interpersonal skills to navigate complex systems and structures; and overall improved academic success. Additionally, the counselor will collaborate with school staff in the implementation of restorative circles and the advisory model. The candidate filling this role will have a proven track record for positive family engagement and is at ease with conducting routine outreach to families, facilitating meetings as needed, and assisting with identifying and linking to community resources.

Required:

  • Master's Degree in a mental health-related field
  • NYC DOE fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to work on-site three days per week

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Creative Arts Therapy, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related mental health field.
  • Experience and familiarity with clinical documentation (records are both written and digital)
  • Practiced in evidence-based clinical assessments and interventions for individual, group, and family sessions
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, motivated
  • Works collaboratively in a team-based setting and cross-functionally among all stakeholders
  • Experience in school-based programs is preferred
  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation preferred
  • Experience in restorative practices is a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Additional Info:

  • This position is Monday to Friday in-person in Manhattan, 8 am-4 pm
  • Full-time Salary is between $55K-60K commensurate with experience; the position reports to the school from March through June of 2024, following the NYC DOE calendar
