CoreSite is Hiring a Remote Vice President of Design and Construction

As a member of the company's Construction team, the Vice President of Design and Construction is responsible for managing all facets of complete construction life cycle for a public data center REIT. CoreSite currently completes $500M in projects annually with a forecast to remain at this level or grow.

Duties:

  • Lead a team of in-house and contracted professionals responsible to design, permit, budget, contract, construct, and commission $500M in annual data center development projects​.
  • Grow the organization’s capabilities ensuring a consistent approach across projects and markets to support an increasing volume of development with accountability for cost, speed to market, and schedule performance.
  • Ensure effective and efficient vendor partnerships. CoreSite utilizes GCs to provide construction services, employs outsourced design teams, and directly procures MEP equipment from vendors.
  • Lead contract negotiations, partnering with Legal and Procurement teams, for GCs and other vendor agreements.
  • Own quality, safety, budget, and schedule for all projects.
  • Provide reporting to CEO and senior leadership team as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with General Management and Sales team members to prepare, deliver, and execute upon customer opportunities, including but not limited to proposals to prospective customers, modification of design, and cost estimations.
  • Represent CoreSite’s development capabilities for strategic customers and projects. Build excellent relationships with high trust from customers prior to and during construction.
  • Mentor and develop personnel to ensure quality performance.
  • Maintain documented design requirements with periodic reviews and recommendations from cross company constituents.
  • Coordinate smooth transitions from development to Data Center Operations to meet customer delivery dates and on-going operations (i.e. construction and equipment documentation, specifications, and warranties).
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Data Center Operations, and Go-To-Market teams to deliver development projects against corporate business plan.
  • Promote and demonstrate the behaviors consistent with CoreSite’s Guiding Principles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proactive management of multiple fast-paced projects with strict adherence to budgets and timelines.
  • Strong working knowledge of management procedures, training, and program implementation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems quickly, handle multiple tasks, and organize resources to ensure work is completed on time and on budget.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of management and staff across the organization as well as to clients.
  • Able to review vendor costs, schedules, change orders, and value engineering proposals for validity.
  • Strong proficiency in cost estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and contracting.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization and project management skills.
  • A strong working knowledge of OSHA standards, fire, safety procedures, and MSDS regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development abilities.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy and have a high degree of integrity.

Education/Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field required.
  • 15 years’ experience in design and construction with institutional developers and/or contractors (publicly traded industrial and data center REITs, national and global contractors and developers).
  • 15 years of relevant experience, including structural and architectural systems analysis, design, property condition assessment, and construction administration.
  • Experience with field observations, review of construction documents, corrective recommendations, cost recommendations, construction monitoring including review of payment applications, evaluation of existing properties, formal report preparation and on-going client communications, managing and
    coordinating project workflow, and growth of professional staff preferred.
  • Strong constructability experience with all commercial property types, including industrial, data centers, and telecommunications.
  • 5 years of recent experience in ground-up data centers and mission critical facilities.
  • 5 years managing project management teams of 5 or more professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience managing $200 million in annual construction.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing teams that reduce build cost and accelerate delivery schedule.
  • Demonstrated success building team relationships and partnerships across internal and external organizations.
  • Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment (2-3 days in the office per week) and adjust schedule for the needs of a 24/7/365 organization.

Travel:

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% in the U.S.

Compensation:

Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $$200,000 and $250,000 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based upon individual and company performance.
