Cost Engineer - Transportation

The Cost Engineer will be part of a dynamic team that provides support on a mega project in transportation. The cost engineer will report to the Program Cost Lead and be responsible for project expenditures and monthly reporting. Successful candidates will have very strong Excel skills and a solid understanding of public transportation projects specifically the areas of project controls; resource and cost management; financial reporting; and contract management. The ability to be flexible and adaptable to handle a variety of assigned tasks and workloads is required.

Responsibilities

Specific Duties

• Monitor, track, analyze, forecast, and report on project estimates, budgets, estimates to complete, commitments, expenditures, changes, and project/contract progress.
• Conduct analyses at the contract level and across all projects to identify trends, opportunities, changes, and risks
• Administers the cost management application
• Quality management and process improvements
• Coordinate and work with other disciplines and subject matter experts
• Works with different stakeholders to develop a clear understanding of scope of work and review payment applications.
• Record data
• Reporting support across a variety of projects and contracts
• Review, verify and validated data in Power BI and other databases
• Prepare reports, presentations, and other communications in Microsoft applications
• Support ad hoc functions as requested

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 5 years’ experience performing similar work
• EIT or similar training, license, certification
• Ability to manage deliverables
• Ability to interface with clients
• Strong communication skills – oral and written.
• 100 percent onsite

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed professional engineer
• 7 years’ experience performing similar work
• Experience in heavy civil engineering projects with federal funding
• Knowledge of alternative delivery methods
• Experience with ARES Prism, Deltek Cobra, or Ecosys

Required Knowledge

• Knowledge of the project controls
• Microsoft Products
• Excel – Expert
• Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, Project – Intermediate
• Power BI or other database-based reporting tools – Intermediate
• Knowledge of and experience with cost management applications
• Reasonable understanding of stage gate project execution techniques

Salary Range: $160k to $190k per year

Location: San Jose, CA - Five days a week in the office
