JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Community Inclusion Assistant / One-on-One Travel Trainer
Supervisor: Transition Department Chair
Regular Daily Schedule: 8:20 a.m. - 3:40p.m.
Calendar to Follow: 10 month
Status: Exempt
Term: 10-month
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The role of the One-on-One Travel Trainer is to develop and provide direct community instruction, the goal of which is to provide high school students with knowledge and opportunities to become independent on NYC Public Transportation and in their local communities. The responsibilities of the 1:1 Travel Trainer include, but are not limited to:
• Lesson planning, materials preparation and reflection
• Direct community instruction and assessment
• Collaborative planning and consultation with Transition Department
• Coordination of travel training experiences to ensure safety of students at all times
• Communication with students, families, and school faculty
• Comportment in keeping with the standards of the profession
• Any other duties deemed necessary by the Administration to ensure the vision, mission and values of Cooke School are supported
As Community Inclusion Assistant , employee will fulfill approximately ten hours per week of internship support for students as assigned by Career Development and Internship Manager. The responsibilities of the Community Inclusion Assistant include, but are not limited to:
• Providing one-to-one or small group training at the work site
• Assist in developing short term and long term goals for student placement
• Provide job specific task analysis for teaching specific skills
• Administer functional assessments
• Provide direct instruction in small groups and/or individually under the supervision of the Head Teacher.
• Report to each designated site on time and provide timely feedback to work sites specific to calendar changes, student attendance, etc.
• Assist in establishing a daily routine and schedule for work
• Provide systematic training of specific job duties
• Model appropriate work-related behaviors
• Assist the students in social integration and self-advocacy skills
• Improve student work performance (speed, accuracy, complexity, etc) as determined by specific learning needs
• Develop a plan for moving the student towards independent function
• Keep accurate documentation meeting all required reporting deadlines
• Provide information to the team for the development of a Transition Plan in the progress report process
• Any other duties deemed necessary by the Administration to ensure that the vision, mission and values are supported
Physical Requirements

• Able to bend and stoop
• Able to push, pull, and lift
Professional Development
All Cooke staff are responsible for developing a professional growth plan with their supervisor. Staff training is an integral part of the Cooke school and as such is a requirement of the job. All staff must at a minimum: attend all scheduled Staff Development activities throughout the year and participate in staff orientation scheduled for the last week in August.
