Greene County Health Care is a Community Health Center providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services for members of our communities in Greene, Pitt and Pamlico counties in eastern North Carolina.

Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner delivers age-appropriate professional primary medical and nursing services to adult, geriatric and/or pediatric patients in an ambulatory care setting in accordance with organizational policies and procedures and consistent with the scope of practice as defined by laws and regulations from the North Carolina Medical Board, the North Carolina Board of Nursing, and other bodies that govern the practice of Nurse Practitioners in the state of North Carolina.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and consultation services according to accepted standards of care, organizational policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provides medical orders for treatments, prescriptions/refills, administration of medications, ancillary testing, and referrals to other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Reviews, interprets, and responds to ancillary test results and coordinates follow-up and notification to the patient.
  • Provides guidance and counseling to both patients and families.
  • Provides medical orders for care of patients by community agencies such as home health, home care, nursing home, and/or hospice, if assigned and appropriate.
  • Maintains availability to patients to answer questions and relay information regarding their care. Responds to medical questions and medical emergencies.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other health team members.
  • Maintains accurate and legible medical records (paper and electronic) while documenting in a manner that is consistent with regulatory standards, GCHC policies and procedures and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Rotates on-call with other medical providers and is available to take and respond to phone calls according to GCHC policies and procedures (if required in contractual arrangement).
  • Works closely with the Medical Director to provide leadership and medical direction for the clinic and supports the mission of Greene County Health Care, Inc.
  • Attends staff, clinical, board or other special meetings as requested and completes administrative documentation in a timely manner.
  • Protects and promotes the rights of patients as stated in the GCHC Patient Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Participates in the organization’s quality improvement and peer review processes as assigned.
  • Supervises assigned clinical staff (nurses, medical assistants, x-ray and lab personnel) in the conduct of patient-related care and delegates authority and responsibility when and where needed.
  • Reviews medical record documentation of assigned clinical staff to assess for quality and appropriateness of care.
  • Sets an example as a medical professional by observing work start and stop times, giving adequate notice for absences and following clinic’s operational and personnel policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Has successfully completed a nurse practitioner education program as required by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Has successfully completed all continuing education as required to maintain unrestricted nurse practitioner license.
  • Has an unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina.
  • Has received notification of approval to practice from the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Is certified as a nurse practitioner by a national credentialing body consistent with 21 NCAC 36.0801(8).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider) within six months of hire date then every two years thereafter.
  • ACLS or PALS certification preferred.
