Congressional Progressive Caucus is Hiring a Communications Director Near Washington, DC

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) seeks an experienced and self-motivated Communications Director immediately to help manage the CPC's press and communications operations. Candidates must possess strong writing and organizational skills, rapid response expertise, project and team management experience, knowledge of digital and social media, and a good sense of humor and creativity. The Communications Director must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment under strict deadlines and work collaboratively with CPC offices, staff, Hill colleagues, and movement partners.

Ideal candidates should have 5 years of strategic communications experience including social media, media relations expertise with a history of working with both print and broadcast media as a spokesperson and on-the-record source, and an understanding of how to convey a political message to target audiences through various channels. Familiarity with the progressive movement and progressive policy is a must. Previous Capitol Hill or campaign and coalition management experience is strongly preferred. Experience with graphic design, video production, and the Adobe Suite is a plus. This is NOT an entry level position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing strategic communications plans in conjunction with the Chair, personal office, and Caucus communications staff,
  • Managing the CPC’s press operation including serving as the primary Caucus media contact, leading rapid response, pitching reporters and helping to field interview requests, organizing media events and press conferences, and coordinating with Caucus offices to develop on-the-record opportunities for Members and key spokespeople.
  • Message development and the creation of communications materials including talking points, messaging guidance, op-eds, speeches, and press releases, statements, and drafting and distributing information to CPC member offices, building and maintaining relationships with outside stakeholders, and drafting press releases, talking points, op-eds, and speeches.
  • Managing the CPC digital operation, including strategy, oversight, and content development for social media channels, website, and other digital materials and assets.
  • Leading communications-focused member services for CPC offices
  • Managing coalition projects and relationships with Hill colleagues and progressive groups
  • Direct supervision of the CPC Press Secretary/Digital and task supervision of other junior staff

The salary range for this role is $96,000 - $106,000. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume and two writing samples to with “Communications Director” in the Subject Line. Job opening closes on May 3, 2024. No phone calls, faxes or drop-ins please.
