About the Role

The General Counsel at the company will play a pivotal role as a strategic legal advisor to the executive team, with a focus on contract review, compliance, risk management, and governance. This includes overseeing the contract management process for various agreements, leases, and certificates of insurance, as well as researching and implementing a contract management system. The General Counsel will also be responsible for providing legal and ethical oversight in close collaboration with HR and Legal Services, and will manage and mentor a small team. The ideal candidate for this position will have approximately 7 years of legal experience, including a supervisory role, and a J.D. with admission to the New York State Bar. Experience working as an in-house attorney at a nonprofit organization is strongly preferred.Candidates for the General Counsel role should possess excellent writing and communication skills, a demonstrated track record in contract management and review, and experience with employment law, compliance, and risk management. Experience in implementing contract management software is also a plus. The General Counsel will be expected to identify and develop strategies to mitigate regulatory and legal issues, provide policies and procedures related to governance, regulatory compliance, and business operations, and ensure the organization's compliance with state and federal regulations.
