Overview:
We are a busy family of 5 living on and running an 80 acre permaculture farm in the Bitterroot Valley Montana. We raise, make and prepare most of our own meals but we are busy with baseball and travel and are ready to have someone prepare our meals for us.
We eat only organic, non-GMO food and keep our meals as nutritious as possible for our general health and the athletes in the family. We eat meat, dairy, veggies and carbohydrates. We raise goats on the farm and we consume their raw milk as well as make cheeses and everything else from it.
We have 3 boys ages 13-18 that eat pizza, calzones, chicken tenders, hamburgers and hot dogs but it would be nice if all of those kid foods can be handmade right at the farm and cooked in a healthy manner.
We can entertain a request to include living accommodations for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare menus in collaboration with Sarah Southwell, co-owner of the farm
- Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen
- Monitor inventory levels and provide a supplies needed list for order
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area
- Collaborate with the ABC acres staff to ensure smooth, friendly relationships
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate new techniques or ingredients into menu offerings
- Manage food costs by minimizing waste
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a personal family Chef or similar role
- Strong knowledge of how to build menus, and take constructive criticism well
- Ability to bounce back from negative reviews
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in relation to food handling and sanitation
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and management of inventory
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Skills:
- Culinary expertise in various cuisines, we especially like Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and Italian
- Food preparation techniques
- Kitchen management experience
- Knowledge of dietary requirements and restrictions such as gluten free
- Experience in banquet or large-scale event catering for a farm to table dinner 1-2x/year and holiday gatherings
