Position SummaryDesign precast/prestressed concrete structures which comply with the strength, functional, safety, durability, and economical criteria for buildings and industrial projects established for the project.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience on assigned projects. This may include the following: wind/earthquake analysis for 1 to 8 story structures, product and connection design/details for the manufacturing, handling, erection, and service/ultimate load requirements.
Review structural design calculations that are performed by outside engineering firms for adherence to company standards and plant capabilities.
Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents/tasks.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
Works closely with sales, estimating and detailing departments preparing both preliminary and contract design calculations and will do project planning dealing with production, installation, review erection drawings and individual piece drawings for conformance to engineering design calculations.
Analyzes, evaluates, sources, and coordinates the procurement of new materials to support model changes.
Review and maintain a working set of engineering standards by analyzing, evaluating, and recommending cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes.
Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction.
Provide support to sales and marketing on product presentations and other design aids to facilitate customer awareness.
Organize, draft and coordinate technical documents as required by the project.
Other duties may be assigned. This would include things like, but not limited to, the following: attending association (ACI, PCI, PCAN, NCPA, and/or PCI Midwest) meetings, continuing education/design seminars, job-site meetings, etc.
