Job Description
The Patient Access Specialist plays an important role in the CIC patient care continuum. They provide patients, families and visitors the first impression of CIC at our front desk. This position is responsible in greeting all patients and family members using the AIDET standard of care. In addition to their front-line introduction to the practice, the Patient Access Specialist is responsible for:
The accurate collection of private patient information
Collecting financial obligations from patients
Requesting medical records
Scanning documentation into the EMR
Interfacing with staff, patients, vendors, solicitors, family members and physicians
Insurance Verification and Authorization processes
This role is dynamic and versatile, often requiring cross-training and cross-coverage within the practice as necessary. A Patient Access Specialist presents the mission, vision and values of CIC in all functions of the position. Demonstrates leadership and personal growth thru participation in education practice-based programs, department operations and identifying new opportunities to enhance job functions. Applies the standards of practice/performances, guidelines relative to departmental operations.
Patient Access Specialist Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Utilize multiple computer applications, scheduling software, and network drives to complete the role
Answering incoming calls
Scheduling and rescheduling patients
Obtaining patient insurance information and supporting documentation
Obtains information from the referring physician or patients when required
Flex-Pay insurance verification, data, entry and payment plan coordination
Verification of patient demographics
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years' front office or medical experience
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
Skill in data entry with minimal errors
Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence
Ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
Must successfully complete CME compliance training as required by CIC.
BLS required or to be obtained with 6 months of employment
Must maintain high patient privacy standards and adheres to HIPAA guidelines
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
