TEACHER ASSISTANTJOB SUMMARY: 

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in all aspects of the classroom, including but not limited to, assessment, planning, and the preparation and implementation of daily activities. In the event the teacher is not present, the teacher assistant is required to take the teacher's role. A float or substitute will be expected to provide the same high-quality care as teachers assigned to a specific classroom.

TEACHER ASSISTANT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:· 

AA in Early Childhood preferred. 

CDA or Teacher Assistant Certificate and Early Childhood experience required 

Specific:

Must pass BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) and fingerprints· Must have CANTS (Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System)· Annual TB test· Varicella· TDAP· Flu vaccine· Proof of MMR immunization· Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance· Reliable transportation required· CPR/First Aid

Schedule Demands:

Full and part time positions. Evenings as needed. Due to the nature and responsibility of the job, this individual must be flexible with their schedule to accommodate the children and families and may be required to work at evening events.

TEACHER ASSISTANT KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise a classroom of up to 20 children or 8 infant and toddlers within the H/S performance and/or RIDE standards
  2. Maintain strict health and safety protocols and polices
  3. Assist teacher in the Implementation of a research base curriculum with fidelity 
  4. Assist the teacher in individualizing for children using assessment data and IEP/IFSP. 
  5. Maintain observational assessment system in collaboration with teacher 
  6. To review the weekly plans that support curriculum and data
  7. Implement effective social/emotional learning using Incredible Years and Conscious Discipline 
  8. Assess and maintain a developmental appropriate learning environment 
  9. Assist in maintaining all HS performance and RI Early Learning Standards
  10. Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent/teacher conferences pre year
  11. Shares family style meals with children
  12. Attend full staff and education meetings
  13. Attend in-service training and professional development opportunities
  14. Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
  15. Maintain positive relationships with families and provide an ongoing communication system
  16. Participate in transition to Kindergarten opportunities
  17. Complete all job responsibilities on time and with accuracy and effectiveness
  18. Maintains good and effective working relationships with staff, families, and special educators.
  19. Responsible to report any suspect of child abuse and neglect
  20. Substitutes for the lead teacher as needed
  21. Other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to talk to hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands, fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The environment is a clinical business office environment. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, respiratory diseases and other infectious diseases, and other biohazardous material requiring universal standard precautions. This position requires the individual to have their own transportation, a current unrestricted license to drive, documented auto insurance and the individual must be willing to work in client’s homes.
