Violence Interrupters are required to adhere to strict and unified protocols.
Be on call for Critical Incident notification and deployment to incidents including community locations and hospitals with specific protocols:
Be willing to provide Critical Incident assessment and Violence Interruption on-site.
Participate in rigorous team pre-brief to plan for safe and protocol-driven deployments
Review and refine the protocol
Develop team plan for specific “hotspot” remediation
Confirm coverage and staffing plan
Participate in team debriefs follow-up to engage and support youth/young adults directly impacted by gun violence:
Provide referral information/linkage to Client Services Manager and Outreach Worker
Partner with Outreach Workers to conduct initial risk assessments and develop 24, 48 & 72 hour emergency safety plans following each incident
Ensure safety protocols are developed in real-time in response to the unique incident and shared for safe passage, vigils, funerals and memorials
Participate in weekly “hot spot” remediation efforts in partnership with Outreach Workers
Keep track of youth engaged so that Critical Incident Managers/Leads can refer the youth into the suite of services.
Participate as an integral member of a multiple-team communication strategy
Attend weekly supervision meetings to review workload, highlight successes, and find solutions to challenges
Attend mandatory team meetings to go over protocols, hot-spot remediation, and social network analysis of youth engaged or involved in new incidents
Provide and maintain records for data and tracking reports
Attend all required training and professional development opportunities
Maintain confidentiality as per agency guidelines
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Experience with de-escalation, mediation, and harm-reduction efforts is required.
Experience and/or expertise in the area of violence prevention and intervention, or trauma-informed support services among high-risk populations is required.
Lived experience of the impact of gun violence preferred.
While on the job in the community providing services, all Critical Incident Managers, Critical Incident Leads, and Violence Interrupters will be in uniform (shirts, hoodies, badges, walkie-talkies, etc.)
While on duty, all Violence Interrupters will be on call for potential incidences of violence including hospital support, vigils, funerals, and community events.
Violence Interrupters will work flexible hours to include weekends.
