Position Summary: The Director of Oral Health is accountable directly to the Vice President, Health Services. This position Manages staffing, activities, and data to achieve COH’s strategic objective of providing high quality, evidence-based, preventative and restorative oral health care while meeting budget goals. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to patients and amongst team members by promoting a positive team-based work environment. This position supports staff in providing patient-centered care with culturally relevant education integrated with other COH services to promote overall health and oral health care. This position provides direct, team-based dental care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the appropriate scope of practice. This is a full-time position.

Salary – Indeed provides its own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH’s range. The salary for this position starts at $140k and is based on experience and education.

Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and vision in strategies to provide oral healthcare integrated with primary care and emotional wellness. Ensures program integrity and excellence by ensuring activities are informed by evidence-based practices. Coordinates methodology and protocols with leadership of other departments to ensure collaborative approach by touching base with partners at least quarterly. 
  • Assesses effectiveness and sustainability of overall oral health program, including reviewing monthly visit numbers as well as financial reports, etc. Reviews reports which drive COH’s understanding of our performance on key measures and goals for accuracy and insights. Ensures documentation sets targets and measures outcomes for activities. 
  • Monitors clinical services provided by dental department staff. Sets up procedures and work flow to ensure quality of care and compliance with evidence-based practices. Monitors productivity and adequate documentation of services through direct supervision, monthly random spot review, as well as peer review. 
  • Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of heath center staff as requested or needed based on feedback and analysis of patient satisfaction, Unusual Incident Reports, etc.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of clinical job descriptions, credentialing, and privileging requirements. 
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of clinical staff. Develops staffing ratios and scheduling plans as needed. 
  • Educates patients and staff on the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention. 
  • Promotes provider support for diagnostic and Dental Procedure coding accuracy, adheres with the corporate compliance plan, attains productivity targets, and claims preparation for third party reimbursement. 
  • Represents Community of Hope at National Network of Oral Health Access initiatives. 
  • Participates in monthly Senior Health Leadership team meetings and other meetings such as Quality Management as requested.
  • Meets with other leadership teams and program directors across COH departments to ensure that services are integrated and information is shared. Supports population health initiatives, etc.
  • Develops relationships with community organizations that provide support for patients, including developing memorandums of understanding.
  • Provides direct dental care to patients on a daily basis, following approved protocols, including but not limited to examining teeth and gums for all infections and diseases, preparing charts of mouths and teeth, X-rays and diagnosing diseases and lesions, preparing cavities and fills them with appropriate materials, extracting teeth and roots, treating infections and diseases of the mouth and teeth, administering local and general anesthesia, and preparing fits, adjusting and finishing dentures, crowns, and bridgework. 
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal guidelines. 
  • Completes and locks all progress notes within 3 business days after patient visit. 
  • Documents all patient encounters, including face to face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the electronic health record in a timely manner
  • Meets with supervisees regularly and provides?real-time?feedback,?training,?support,?and coaching as needed.??Creates meeting agendas, sends meeting agendas in advance when possible, and documents concerns promptly as needed.
  • If applicable, actively recruits for vacancies?with a sense of urgency. This includes reviewing resumes,?phone screening, interviewing, and completing references.? This also includes partnering with Talent Management for assistance in an effort to fill vacancies promptly. 
  • Takes initiative and makes decisions?within the scope of work.?Assesses?situations independently, thinks critically,?and takes action to address?issues?or make useful recommendations?while maintaining a solution-oriented lens.??

Requirements

  • Dental Degree (DDS, Board Certified preferred) required. 
  • Current CDS and DEA required.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS or BLS for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent) required. 
  • At least 3-5 years of Supervisory experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience
  • Current license or ability to acquire a DC license in a timely manner required. Any providers who are licensed in Maryland who provide a copy of their license and?MD?CDS to Talent Management are also eligible for?MD?licensure reimbursement. 
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred 
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Amharic a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required 
  • Ability to work with technology and electronic health records 
  • Commitment to work with under resourced populations in an urban setting
  • Shares Saturday clinic coverage with other providers by completing at least one Saturday shift per month. 
  • Ability to travel across sites if requested. 
  • Able to work evening hours as needed
