FGS Global is Hiring a Director, Health Communications Near Washington, DC

FGS Global (FGS), a leading strategic communications and government relations firm, is seeking an experienced communications professional to join the firm’s Strategic Communications practice. This position is within the practice’s Health group, whose clients represent diverse organizations in the sector, including hospitals and health systems, insurers, professional membership organizations, non-profits, advocacy groups and coalitions, research universities and institutes, biotechnology companies, venture capital firms, diagnostics companies and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as day-to-day client contact on diverse health team accounts.
  • Develop, write and present persuasive strategic plans, messaging and collateral materials tailored to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Account and project management, including workplans, setting and meeting deadlines, managing colleague contributors, and monitoring of account budgets and needs.
  • Generate media outreach strategies and pitch stories on a regular basis. Cultivating trusted media relationships is a baseline expectation.
  • Display keen understanding of the health sector and policy environment or significant parts of it, an excellent grasp on healthcare reporting trends, and desire to expand into new areas.
  • Demonstrate excellent client relations– be responsive, professional, and helpful.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging issues relevant to clients.
  • React quickly and prioritize appropriately in response to urgent client requests or developments in the media.
  • Contribute to new business proposals and pitches.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver services in collaboration with other FGS divisions (government relations,advertising,content development, public opinion research, creative design and development).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A BA/BS degree in a related field and 10-12 years of relevant communications experience, preferably within the health sector.
  • Experience with crisis or issues management and comfort with complex engagements.
  • Experience with developing and managing integrated communications campaigns, drawing from multiple disciplines including media relations, government relations, advertising, and public opinion research, in-house or at a public relations agency.
  • An ability to distill complex technical, legislative, regulatory, legal or other issues into compelling content is essential.
  • Experience working with coalitions and advocacy groups is a plus.
  • Experience working with reporters and established media contacts.
  • A self-starter with a passion for expanding their knowledge and skills.
  • Strong strategic thinker with understanding of how larger business and public policy landscape impacts clients’ communications abilities and needs.
  • Experience and ambition for successfully leading efforts to obtain new business is a plus.
  • A demonstrated capacity for leadership, communication, adaptability, resourcefulness, teamwork and collegiality within a tight-knit team.
