Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Midwifery provides leadership for midwifery providers and oversight to ensure a high quality of care for patients at Community of Hope. This person also provides direct clinical care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the scope of practice. The Associate Director of Midwifery reports directly to the Director of Midwifery. This is a full-time position at our Family Health and Birth Center (FHBC) in NE.
Salary- This position starts at $115k and up based on experience. Indeed provides their own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH's range. 
Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Serves as a member of the on-site management team to ensure smooth flow of patients and optimize the delivery of care to patients at FHBC.
  • Meets with supervisees regularly and provides real-time feedback, training, support, and coaching, including completing 90 day and annual performance evaluations per their due dates, documenting any issues or changes, providing recommendations for professional development and/or training opportunities, and recognizing staff when appropriate 
  • Applies principles learned through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) trainings and/or trauma informed care trainings (TIC) and leads with a DEI and TIC lens when appropriate. 
  • Supports health leadership team in the implementation and monitoring of COH policies, protocols, and guidelines. 
  • Serves as a lead for midwifery quality management activities, including serving as part of the Staff Quality Management Committee.
  • Provides virtual medical care to patients, referring them to specialists or other care coordination resources, communicating with other providers on issues of patient care as needed. 
  • Precepts residents, medical students, nurse provider students, midwifery students, and physician assistant students during their community medicine rotations as agreed upon with supervisor. 
  • Ensures that patient care is delivered in a manner consistent with current professional standards, including those of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the American Association of Birth Centers, and the policies, procedures and clinical guidelines of Washington Hospital Center.
  • Documents all patient encounters, including face to face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the medical record in a timely fashion. 
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential. 
  • Uses all mandatory, structured fields as required in eCW. Documents all materials given to the patient in the electronic record; completing and locking all progress notes within 3 business days after patient visit. 
  • Maintains the required productivity numbers expected by Community of Hope, as set by the board. 
  • Provides updates on client successes or program outcomes for fundraising and communications purposes as needed.
  • If applicable, actively recruits for vacancies with a sense of urgency. This includes reviewing resumes, phone screening, interviewing, and completing references.
  • Attends Health Services’ staff meetings and other all-staff meetings.
  • Represents Community of Hope at staff meetings, other all-staff meetings and health related community functions. 
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Completion of a Certified Nurse Midwife program of study and current license as a Nurse-Midwife in D.C. required. 
  • Current Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) license in D.C. required. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain hospital privileges for midwifery care.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Experience with both hospital and out-of-hospital births; experience with 40 or more births required.
  • Participation in appropriate continuous medical education;
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Amharic preferred.
  • Commitment to working with the underserved.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and travel between different clinical sites as needed required.
