Role:
At Village Leadership Academy, ITAV’s K-8 elementary school, we are seeking an Assistant Principal who embodies a strong sociopolitical consciousness and a commitment to culturally relevant and responsive teaching practices. This vital role involves working closely with the Principal to effectively lead and manage all aspects of school operations, fostering a positive school culture, and enhancing student engagement and achievement. As Assistant Principal, you will play a critical role in managing personnel, strengthening parent and community relations, and supporting a curriculum that values liberatory education, youth participatory action research, and community-connected praxis. In the absence of the Principal, you will assume full leadership responsibilities, ensuring the continuity and integrity of our educational mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and School Culture: Foster a positive and inclusive school environment, uphold standards of student conduct and discipline, and ensure a safe, nurturing setting for learning.
Program Management: Oversee the planning and execution of school-wide programs, including extracurricular activities, and manage the academic calendar to ensure seamless operations.
Staff Development and Support: Lead the recruitment, training, and evaluation of teaching staff, promote professional growth, and ensure alignment with the school’s educational goals and culturally relevant pedagogies.
Student Academic and Social Support: Monitor and support student academic performance and social-emotional development, implement assessment and intervention strategies, and ensure that teaching methods are responsive to diverse student needs.
Parent and Community Engagement: Strengthen partnerships with parents and the broader community, actively involve them in educational activities, and represent the school at community events to foster collaborative relationships.
Operational Oversight: Coordinate with school staff to maintain the functionality and safety of school facilities, efficiently manage resources, and uphold a conducive learning environment.
Professional Development: Encourage continuous learning among staff, including participating in professional development opportunities that enhance teaching efficacy and educational outcomes, with a focus on culturally relevant and responsive educational practices.
Location: Village Leadership Academy (South Loop Campus or Bronzeville Campus)
Position Type: Full-Time
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum Master’s Degree in Education or a Related Field.
Illinois Principal’s License (Type 75) preferred
Five years of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred.
Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
