For over 40 years, the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program has provided transportation, caregiver respite and companionship for homebound older adults. Companions are volunteers who receive an hourly stipend and mileage reimbursement for their time and travel.

As a full time, Program Companion Coordinator for the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program, you will work one on one with active older adults that want to give back to their communities through volunteering. You will have the fun and rewarding opportunity to match them with isolated seniors in their communities and support the development of meaningful, lifelong relationships. You will work with local agencies to coordinate monthly training events on helpful aging resources and topics. You will work with a team that is passionate about growing the program and changing the lives of seniors throughout the state. As Program Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to educate the community about this wonderful program and the reward of becoming a Senior Companion volunteer. In addition, you and your team will plan fun volunteer recognition events, recruitment/marketing events and companion orientation training. The AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program also partners with nearly twenty non-profit agencies throughout the state, providing Program Coordinators with ample opportunity for networking and career development within the field of aging.

This Program Companion Coordinator will support assigned companions in Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Strafford Counties.

You'll join a team of talented and passionate people who are motivated to make our community as strong and resilient as possible.

HOURS: Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours a week. This position allows for 1-2 days working remotely after completion of a 90-day training period.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining close contact with volunteering stations and monitoring Senior Companion volunteer activities. Acts as advocate for volunteers when necessary. Has recurring access to vulnerable populations.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITES:

  • As a part of the supportive team this position will oversee older adult volunteers-Senior Companions that visit clients in their home.
  • Completes the volunteer enrollment process for Senior Companion volunteers to their assignments and activities with the clients.
  • Support the volunteer station staff as well as lead training or meetings as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support and resource referrals to assigned volunteers as needed.
  • Maintains timely and accurate federal documentation.
  • Complies with federal and agency policy.
  • Evaluates Senior Companion performance in consultation with volunteer station staff and support of supervisor.
  • Works with program staff and affiliated Senior Companion Program organizations to complete the quarterly newsletter.
  • Routinely interacts with vulnerable populations (persons over the age of sixty and the disabled).

  • Maintain adequate knowledge of all CAPBM programs to make referrals to other CAPBM programs beneficial to the participant.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff per CAPBM policy and procedure. Adhere strictly to the confidentiality of clients, co-workers, and internal business information.
  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM.
  • Follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with the supervisor regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment; and attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work, use time appropriately, and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in the field of human services.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about community and aging resources.
  • Ability to work effectively with older adults.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn efficient use of volunteer management software.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to operate within the parameters of a designated budget.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Willingness to travel throughout assigned coverage area.

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree in human services or healthcare field. Education requirement may be substituted with two additional years of related experience; to be determined by the director of Elder Services.

License/Certification:

  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel.
