Job SummaryPosition Title: Parent Educator
Program: RISE Program
Classification: Exempt/ Permanent / Full-Time
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIESProject Implementation
  • Provide on-site and/or at home supportive services to teen parents and their children in a dignified and respectful manner, and advocate for/assist teen parents in self-advocacy wherever necessary.
  • Works collaboratively with Program Coordinator to plan and implement student groups, summer programming and program activities.
  • Aid in navigating any obstacles to resources or services of other organizations or businesses, including, but not limited to, advocating for client, assisting with time management, supporting in completion of paperwork, creatively finding connections for new resources & providing ongoing evaluation of eligibility for programs/social services.
Compliance and Data Management
  • Utilize the SDOL and state data collection systems to capture teen parent data and goal planning.
  • Use DHS and Family Centered Coaching tools to support teens in creating short- and long-term goals per DHS guidelines.
  • Comply with all state regulations for the Teen ELECT program and be an active participant in preparation for and during the annual monitoring visit.
Coaching Practices & Implementation
  • Complete work with a family-centered approach.
  • Utilizing Motivational Interviewing techniques, use reflective listening and other self-reflection tools to aid the person or family in reaching greater stability.
  • Participate in professional and community development such as Poverty Simulation, Community Navigation, and other training as designated.
Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Collaborate with various RISE and CAP programs to ensure stability and partnership.
  • Connect to other community programs to ensure viable partnerships are developed to enhance program delivery and referral process.
  • Provide ongoing referrals to social services throughout the city and county as needed,
Education/Experience RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in related field with minimum of one year of experience; or High School Diploma with minimum two years related experience.
  • Experience working with families with low incomes and community services preferred.
  • Experience working with teens and/or young children preferred.
  • Proven track record of maintaining a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with clients, customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
