Community Action for Social Justice is Hiring a Coordinator of Training and Capacity Building Near Hauppauge, NY

Community Engagement and Harm Reduction Training

  • Schedule and provide Overdose Prevention trainings in various community settings;
  • Write curricula and provide harm reduction training for other service providers, including healthcare settings, substance use treatment programs, residential facilities, and schools;
  • Build and advance organizational relationships with other service providers;
  • Provide continuing training for CASJ volunteers and interns;
  • Conduct outreach businesses and other community venues, including utilization of social media platforms;
  • Assist with Participant Power Initiative to engage CASJ participants to inform program services and larger social systems that impact the health and quality of life of people who use drugs (PWUD);
  • Represent CASJ at relevant coalition/task force/community meetings.

Syringe Exchange

  • Enroll new participants and provide Special Arrangements syringe transactions;
  • Present and discuss harm reduction information (including overdose prevention, safer injection techniques, and vein care) to PWUD in various settings;
  • Provide referrals to additional services as needed;
  • Provide support for 24-hour phone line as needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Programs or Executive Director

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • Current NYS driver’s license in good standing and personal vehicle required;
  • Some evenings, weekends, and holiday hours required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and advocating for people who use drugs;
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and able to relate to people using drugs respectfully and without judgment;
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, buprenorphine, naloxone, and Hepatitis C highly desirable;
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Advanced degree in public health, public administration, law, or relevant social science desirable;
  • Bilingual desirable

Location: Hauppauge, and various locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties

Pay: $50,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
