Community Action for Social Justice is Hiring a HIV/Hepatitis C Testing Coordinator Near Hauppauge, NY

HIV/HCV Testing Coordinator

CASJ's HIV/HCV Testing Coordinator will lead the low threshold testing initiative within our harm reduction and syringe exchange programs across Suffolk and Nassau counties.

  • HIV/HCV Testing: Assist in developing HIV/HCV testing program and ensure adherence to all protocols;
  • Order testing supplies and maintain inventory, including necessary logs
  • Perform field-based HIV and HCV testing in conjunction with Syringe Exchange Program and Mobile Outreach Unit
  • Care Coordination: Provide CASJ participants with appropriate referrals (such as HIV/HCV/STI treatment, substance use treatment, health insurance) and ensure linkage to those services (may entail coordination with other service providers, facilitation of transportation, etc);
  • Build and advance organizational relationships with CBOs, health care facilities, and substance use treatment providers to establish or maintain referral networks and care coordination;
  • Maintain information regarding participant satisfaction with other service providers to whom they have been referred;
  • Syringe Exchange: Enroll new participants and provide syringe exchange to participants throughout Suffolk County;
  • Present and discuss harm reduction information (including safer injection techniques, overdose prevention, and vein care) with people who inject drugs (PWID) in various settings;
  • Schedule and provide Overdose Prevention trainings for other CBOs and at community events;
  • Assist with data entry and reconciliation as needed;
  • Provide support for 24-hour phone line as needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Experience providing rapid HIV and HCV testing in field-based locations;
  • Current NYS driver’s license in good standing and personal vehicle required;
  • Some evenings, weekends, and holiday hours required; and
  • Respect for people of diverse ethnicities, races, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, and socioeconomic conditions required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and advocating for people who use drugs;
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and ability to relate to people using drugs respectfully;
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, buprenorphine, naloxone, and Hepatitis C;
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Advanced degree in public health, public administration, law, or relevant social science desirable;
  • Bilingual desirable
