Community Action for Social Justice is Hiring a Coordinator of Medical Services Near Hauppauge, NY

Coordinator of Medical Services

The Coordinator of Medical Services leads buprenorphine and Hepatitis C treatment initiatives that provide services for people who use drugs throughout Long Island. Coordinator will work closely with syringe exchange program staff, nurse practitioners, and Medical Director.

Drug User Health Hub

  • Coordinate with syringe exchange program staff to receive and review referrals for buprenorphine, HCV treatment, and wound care;
  • Schedule and facilitate appointments with NPs;
  • Provide on-going coordination and case conferencing with NPs;
  • Collaborate with Medical Director and Director of Programs
  • Review logs and client-level EHR, and assists with data entry as needed;
  • Provide participants with appropriate external referrals, ensure linkage to those services (may entail coordination with other service providers, facilitation of transportation), and maintain information regarding participant satisfaction with other service providers to whom they have been referred;
  • Write monthly program narrative reports.

Mobile Outreach Unit

  • Oversee wound care initiative on mobile outreach unit, including coordinating with medical provider(s), facilitating training, and ensuring availability of supplies

Syringe Exchange

  • Enroll new participants and provide Special Arrangements syringe transactions;
  • Present and discuss harm reduction information (including safer injection techniques, overdose prevention, and vein care) with people who use drugs (PWUD) in various settings;
  • Provide Overdose Prevention and harm reduction and training in various settings;
  • Provide support for 24-hour phone line as needed; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Programs and/or Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and advocating for people who use drugs;
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and ability to relate to people using drugs respectfully and without judgment;
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, buprenorphine, naloxone, and hepatitis C highly desirable;
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Current NYS driver’s license in good standing and personal vehicle required;
  • Some evenings, weekends, and holiday hours required;
  • Advanced degree in medicine, nursing, or public health desirable;
  • Bilingual desirable

Location: Hauppauge, and various locations throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday (Saturday is remote)
