CommuniHealth Services is Hiring a Dental Assistant Near Bastrop, LA

Travel Required - Will work in Bastrop location and travel to Marion.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for patient care by assisting dentist with procedures including preparing treatment room, preparing materials, instruments and equipment for patient treatment; taking x-rays and assisting dentist in lab work. This position requires compliance with CommuniHealth Services’ written standards, including the Compliance Plan and policies and procedures (including the Code of Conduct).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for fluoride application and topical anesthetic application.

2. May perform other related administrative work such as making appointments, answering phone, and ordering supplies.

3. Assumes responsibilities associated with duties under the supervision of the Dentist.

4. Functions within the scope of their approved competency skills checklist.

5. Uses personal protective equipment to protect patients and self from infectious diseases.

6. Sterilizes, disinfects, and sets up instruments for dental procedures.

7. Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities.

8. Polishes teeth. Applies fluoride and sealant using dental instruments.

9. Interviews patients to gather medical information.

10. Records treatment information and maintains patient records, including medical and dental histories.

11. Takes patient vital signs.

12. Processes dental diagnostic x-rays.

13. Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist.

14. Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.

15. Pours, trims, and polishes study casts.

16. Advises or instructs patients on dental care, causes and treatment of dental problems, or oral health care services.

17. Orders and monitors dental supplies and equipment inventory.

18. Completes required CHS training per policy, maintains compliance with and knowledge of all CHS departmental, facility specific and system-wide policy and procedure, attends mandatory departmental meetings and/or training, and follows CHS Mission, Vision and Values in delivery of all services.

19. Participates in all appropriate meetings in the organization.

20. Maintains strictest confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations as well as compliance with HRSA regulations.

21. This position may require work beyond normal working hours. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.

22. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Education/Licensure:

1. High School Diploma or GED. Dental Assistant training program.

2. Must possess current CPR certification

Skills/Experience:

1. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

2. Minimum one (1) year experience.

3. Must possess ability to keep hands and arms steady while moving arm or holding arm and hand in one position.

4. Must possess ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and general public.

5. Must possess ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects.

6. Must have patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition, as well as be willing to handle persons based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.

7. Must be able to adapt easily to changes in work assignment and environment, willing to assume additional responsibilities and learn new procedures.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

1. Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office area of the facility.

2. Is subject to frequent interruptions.

3. Is involved with personnel, patients, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.

4. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset personnel, patients, visitors, etc.

5. Is willing to work beyond normal working hours: weekends, holidays, and other shifts/positions as necessary.

6. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.

7. Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.

8. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Physical Demands:

1. Significant amount of time standing and using equipment with hands.

2. Must be able to handle occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, and stooping.

3. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

4. Must be able to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.

5. Must be able to quickly move hands/hands together with arms or two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.

6. Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.

7. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
