GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides professional case management services for children, adults and families in the foster care and/or adoption unit; exercises independent judgment and initiative and is thoroughly familiar with agency standards, policies and functions as well as the full range of community resources; performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Family Services Specialist II in the intake team is an in-office position and is a first point of contact with the public providing intake services for Adult Protective Services (APS), Child Protective Services (CPS), Adult & Child Screenings and Information & Referral. The person in this position must possess strong customer services skills, communicate professionally and efficiently verbally and in writing and make quick and accurate decisions.
APS & CPS Intake:
· Receive reports on hotline, in writing and in person & enter into OASIS & PeerPlace.
· Use SDM intake tool (CPS) & guidance to make validity, track and response time decisions.
· Send case alerts & other required notifications.
Adult & Child Screenings
· Gather needed information to screen for placement in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community-based care.
Prevention Intake
· Gathers needed information & conducts the initial assessment for prevention services for families experiencing homelessness, seeking relief of custody and with youth at risk of entering foster care.
Information & Referral
· Provides information & referral for the public, maintaining a strong knowledge of community resources & services.
Other duties:
· Participates in community, agency and division committees and task forces as needed for specific projects and agency initiatives.
· Other duties as assigned.
· Considerable knowledge of: current social, economic and health concerns; current literature and trends in the social work field; the federal Social Security Act; casework philosophy, methods and practices; human behavior including individual and group behavior; community resources; accurately understands and interprets laws and regulations; ability to effectively plan and organize work; ability to gather, document and report relevant facts accurately.
· Sound computer skills with the ability to use computer and typical business software, proprietary software and applications, and various wireless technologies and peripherals for communications and to complete assigned tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Four year degree in a relevant social science field in accordance with VA Code § 63.2-219 plus two (2) years of relevant social work experience; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
