Job Summary:
As part of the Commonwealth Casualty Company team, the Junior Accountant’s job is to provide accounting support to company customers and staff. Work consists of both routine and non-routine accounting work including, but not limited to accounts receivable, processing and mailing of checks as well as other documents, processing of returned checks and credit card disputes, invoicing and record keeping as well as collection of premiums.
Duties:
· Provides accounting and administrative support to other staff.
· Processes checks for claims and underwriting
· Performs bank reconciliations
· Processes claims and premium payments received by mail
· Processes premium refund checks, notates policies and uploads check registers to Positive Pay
· Responds to credit card charge backs
· Creates invoices
· Maintains accounting files updated with independent agency information
· Reviews policies with credits on prior month aging reports and processes refunds
· Performs policy upkeep by transferring balances from one policy to another when needed
· Reverses, refunds and voids customer and agency payments on policies when needed
· Conducts research, tracks, and resolves accounting issues
· Performs other accounting duties as required to support the goals of the department
Job Requirements:
· Accounting degree or equivalent experience
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Superb organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
· Good analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills•
· Strong knowledge of MS Office Programs such as Word and Excel. (Familiarity with excel formulas)
· Ability to manage workload effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
