Comlink Solutions is Hiring a Safety Manager Near Prairie, MN

Comlink Solutions is seeking to hire an experienced safety manager, one who is passionate about teaching and coaching to safety standards and possesses a high degree of accountability for keeping our employees and the communities we serve safe from harm. We are an OSP fiber construction company that provides a full range of communications infrastructure services. These include providing underground utility construction services, small cell wireless network builds, and fiber optic splicing in 4 regional market areas. Position Summary

This position is responsible for managing and further developing safety programs for the company, training to expected standards, promoting a safe work environment for all employees, performing safety observations and audits, driving to a root cause for any incident, and striving to prevent incidents by ensuring all safety policies and protocols are followed. As a safety manager, you are responsible for company compliance with state and federal industry regulations as applicable.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for developing and leading the company's safety program initiatives; revise and update programs as needed to ensure compliance with the goal of keeping all employees safe and free of injury or illness
  • Responsible for writing and modifying safety policy and procedure documents in support of company’s safety philosophy and contractual requirements
  • Lead industry required safety training programs, conduct applicable new hire safety orientation training, and solicit appropriate vendor training while managing to the company's budget resources
  • Continually promote safety requirements to all employees, coaching along the way to build a culture where safety is always top of mind and developing recognition strategies for our employees for practicing safety in all of their work duties
  • Manage compliance efforts as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to include inspections, JSA's, pre- and post-trip inspections (DVIR), mileage logs and other reporting requirements
  • Manage compliance efforts as required by OSHA in the workplace, warehouse, and worksite environments
  • Manage and lead the company's safety committee meetings, team trainings and meetings, tailgate talks, and routinely conduct safety walk-throughs and investigations as needed
  • With support from human resources, manage OSHA 300 injury and illness reporting requirements, including all trending of safety measurements and metrics, analyzing trends
  • Represent and act as the company's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for customer compliance requirements and portal data uploads and management, keeping all safety records current
  • Manage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program accountability and inventory of all safety wearables and equipment
  • Comply with all company confidential and proprietary policies
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, or the equivalent in training and work experience
  • 3-5 years proven experience in construction related safety management, notable OSP Fiber Construction
  • Expert knowledge of construction safety processes and requirements
  • Expert knowledge of requirements under the DOT and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
  • OSHA 30-hour certification, OSHA 510 preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities, with the ability to define and discuss topics, action items and provide follow-up
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with all levels of employees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to speak in front of and lead group meetings
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Advance knowledge of Office 365 Microsoft Office programs; Microsoft Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Presentation Programs
  • Intermediate knowledge Microsoft Excel 

Preferred Programs

  • Safety Certifications preferred: OSHA 510
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery (ex. HDD, Excavator, Aerial Lift, Hydro Vac, other related OSP Fiber construction equipment)
  • Certified to conduct Confined Space/Fall Protection and Competent Person/Trench Safety
  • Certified to conduct CPR and First Aid training

This position requires a combination of sedentary work, sitting for longer periods at a time with the ability to stand for long periods of time, visual acuity to perform activities related to computer work, and finger dexterity for keyboarding and operating office equipment. Requires physical capabilities to conduct field investigations, walk or navigate uneven terrain, and work outdoors in moderate to extreme weather conditions. Crouching, climbing and reaching on a limited basis. Ability to walk, carry and lift objects as needed. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
