The Position:

The Director of Safety is directly responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with construction projects and company operations. They will proactively plan, direct and implement the Company's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free work environment. The Safety Director supports the company in ensuring each construction project is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, subcontractors and the general public. They ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, county and local safety related regulations. You will set the tone for corporate safety and risk management, demonstrates strong leadership skills, works well in a team environment, has excellent communication skills and strives to enrich the Company Culture.

Responsibilities of this role include but not limited to:

  • Develop and execute plan to enforce safety procedures and practices companywide in effort to reduce risk
  • Remain current on federal, state, county and local safety regulations. Ensure company compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards. Keep management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact
  • Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, safe equipment operating techniques and prevention for job sites and office
  • Ensure new employees receive safety instructions prior to beginning work. Emphasize any specific site hazards and thoroughly explain all applicable precautions
  • Act as a contact for any federal, state or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including OSHA
  • Develop, manage and oversee motor vehicle fleet safety program
  • Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs
  • Maintain a work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to ensure positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, co-workers and management
  • Investigate all workers comp injuries and all equipment related accidents
  • Produce and maintain all company safety records and reports
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings regularly
  • Provides company leadership and direction as it relates to all areas of safety and training
  • Ensures OSHA compliance at construction sites. Develops, implements and monitors systems to meet OSHA requirements. Handles OSHA recording and reporting
  • Conducts regular job site inspections and assessments and identifies potential hazards and for compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations and contract requirements. Regularly reviews jobsite conditions as they pertain to OSHA and public protection
  • Conducts follow-up inspections and tracks risk/hazards/discrepancies in accordance with Company Health and Safety Program
  • Documents safety inspections, prepares and distributes reports and follow-ups with project team and field personnel for corrective actions that have been implemented and documented
  • Investigates all incidents and documents properly and recommends and assists in the corrective action for implementation
  • Provides necessary safety, certifications and OSHA training to Company staff
  • Travel within the twin cities with occasional travel to various jobsites out of twin cities

Requirements/Skills

  • Bilingual Spanish/English is strongly preferred
  • OSHA 30 and OSHA 500 required
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the Construction industry is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety and CSP or CHST certified is desired
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
