    JOB PURPOSE

    Manages, monitors, and facilitates the work responsibilities for district school psychologists, and coordinates the assignments for school psychology intern(s). Supports instructional programs by reviewing reports of team members, mentoring colleagues and supporting professional accountability. Performs specialized psychological work in an educational setting to enable students to achieve optimal learning. Collects, interprets, and synthesizes information about a student’s sensory motor/perceptual functioning, academic achievement, intelligence, social/emotional adjustment, and significant crises that influence academic and behavioral functioning. Position works cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member to provide services and to devise appropriate services for referred students and their families.
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, other applicable federal and state disability laws and their implementing regulations as the relate to school psychology in general, and to the roles and responsibilities of a School Psychologist.
    Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of and promote the utilization of the District’s ongoing RTL programs, including both academics and PBIS.
    Provides professional support and guidance to School Psychologist staff.
    Provides case consultations with School Psychologist staff.
    Plans, coordinates and facilitates meetings with School Psychologist staff.
    Monitors and ensures that School Psychologist staff are adhering to District, state and federal compliance issues, including timelines.
    Advocates for the continuing improvement of special education and well-being of all students.
    Attends professional meetings and provides guidance to school teams when needed (i.e., manifestation determination, etc.).
    Facilitates and organizes the ordering of psychological test materials. Provides the Director of Special Services with budgetary financial projections for anticipated future test needs.
    Maintains an accurate and effective working knowledge of legal cases, salient new research trends and new developments impacting the role of the School Psychologist via attending professional trainings, workshops and being a member of state and/or national professional organizations.
    Develops and delivers ongoing staff development/training aligned with Federal/State compliance and LEA
    goals.
    Acts as a member of the school crisis team to provide intervention to students as necessary.
    Compiles reports and maintains accurate case records.
    Provides in-service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding mental health issues and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students.
    Organizes and conducts specialized programs to include parent training classes and student support activities.
    Conducts specialized individual and group counseling sessions to address specific emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students.
    Serves as a liaison between the student, home, school, private counseling facilities and community resources such as social services, court services, and family service agencies.
    Assists the Director in planning and conducting department staff meetings.
    Monitors caseload size from school to school to make staffing recommendations to the Director of Special Services
    Facilitates the development and provides performance evaluations to the School Psychologist staff.
    Perform other tasks assigned by immediate supervisor.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Most possess an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree and a valid State of South Carolina School Psychologist certificate.
    Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of school psychology theory, child development, child and adolescent psychopathology and psychometric principals as related to psychoeducational testing.
    Must possess the ability to work cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member, excellent communication and time management skills.
    Must possess an understanding of education leadership and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, administrators, students, families, team members, community agencies, and others.
    Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
