Exciting opportunity to help create a culture and systems of risk management, compliance, and policy development at the College of the Holy Cross.

This position will have responsibility for partnering with campus stakeholders in the development of a comprehensive risk management program, empowering all campus departments to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the College. This position will also work with the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer to create and implement a policy development program. Finally, this position will assist in the development and implementation of a compliance program across all areas of the College.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Risk Management: Partner with campus departments to develop risk management practices within departmental policies and procedures. Analyze potential risks to determine the sufficiency of insurance coverage, often with the involvement of insurance carriers and brokers. Evaluates the insurance terms of a wide variety of contracts, considering the roles and responsibilities of each party. Make recommendations for appropriate insurance requirements for each contract party.
  • Insurance Administration: Coordinate renewal process for numerous insurance policies. Maintains relationships with administrators in all areas of the College in order to collect, evaluate and disclose risk exposure data and determine appropriate levels of insurance coverage. The role involves eliciting the cooperation of numerous College departments, aggregating large amounts of diverse data, and interpreting the data into meaningful reports for administrators and insurance carriers.
  • Claims Management: Manage college insurance claims from start to finish, including communications with insurance adjusters, brokers, claimants, and College administrators. This includes shepherding the multi-state process of insurance claims that may involve outside consultants, establishing reserves, and working with the business services to track expenditures and reimbursements. This process is complex and involves careful handling of sensitive personal and institutional information.
  • Policy Development: Support the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, and other campus officials - in the development and implementation of a policy development program, which may include, but is not limited to, policy review, development, publication, and notice. Be available to answer interpretative questions from campus departments.
  • Compliance: Assist in the administrative oversight of regulatory compliance programs, college policy administration, and related activities and operations of the College. Facilitates the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of mission-critical compliance-related initiatives. Collaborates with departments that are responsible for regulatory compliance activities. This is accomplished through the development of compliance matrices, committee infrastructures, and business processes that support timely and accurate compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, college policies, and procedures.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree with five or more years experience OR advanced degree (e.g. J.D.) with two or more years experience in relevant areas which might include but is not limited to insurance and claims management, development of risk management and other loss control measures, policy development, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehensively identify risks and understand organizational priorities, drivers, values, and culture when developing and implementing compliance or risk programs and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with appropriate discretion.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and analysis.
  • Ability to produce high quality work products with attention to detail and within specified timeframes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally across multiple constituencies to resolve complaints in an impartial and fair manner.
