Overall description: Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) or his designee, the Director of 6-12 Math will oversee the implementation across all CAPS schools of our math program, including core curriculum and intervention.

Education and Certification

• Teacher certification; supervisor or higher cert. preferred
• Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees required; masters in math or math education strongly preferred

Knowledge and skills

• Strong mathematics knowledge and pedagogy background, including familiarity with NCTM’s Teaching Practices
• Ability to lead effective professional development including coaching, mentoring, and workshops
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Extensive knowledge of math instructional technology tools
• Extensive knowledge of of NJ math standards (or Common Core) and the NJSLA testing program or PARCC

Experience

• 5 years of 6-12 math-specific teaching experience, including some high school experience
• Minimum 1 year of some kind of educational leadership experience; 3 years of district-level experience preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manage and support Network Math Course Leads and guide building leaders and coaches supporting the math program

Responsibilities and Duties

• Coordinate implementation, documentation, and evaluation of all aspects of the CAPS 6-12 math program, maintaining harmony with the K-5 program through collaboration with the K-5 Math Director
• Maintain a schedule of campus visits and remote meetings to (a) monitor and guide integrity of implementation, (b) coach leaders supervising math, (c) coach math instruction directly, and (d) facilitate various meetings about math instruction
• Maintain scope and sequence documents and lesson plans, including ongoing revisions based on observations and feedback
• Collaborate with Sp. Ed and ELL support staff at each campus
• (Optional) Support management of H.S. computer science courses
• Track all visits and proactively communicate frequently with school-based leaders and the CAPS Network Academic Committee
• Summarize major successes and challenges periodically at meetings of various leadership groups
• Develop and conduct professional development sessions based on assessed need and best practices at 5 Network Staff Days and periodic (semi-remote) PLC events spread throughout the year
• Assist staff in the selection and purchase of math-specific resources, including manipulatives, calculators, etc. and work with IT staff to optimize resources used in teaching math
• Support the use of technology to collect student data and analyze data to guide teams in improving various aspects of implementation
• Support in the recruitment of high-quality teachers
• Carry out other duties assigned by the CAO or the CAO’s designee
