Collage Day School is Hiring a Director of Special Education Near Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

BRIEF JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with the individual and collective needs of the ages of the population served by Collage Day School, the Director of Special Education will lead the community at Palm Valley Child Development Center, helping students and staff meet their maximum potential.

This job description reflects the designation of essential job functions but does not provide an all-inclusive list of duties that may be assigned.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBII.ITIES AND DUTIES:

The Director of Special Education will assume the responsibilities as a member of leadership as designated below. In addition, the Director of Special Education will provide modeling, coaching, and support to teachers, students and families as designated by Head of Upper School

  • Greets student and parent with respectful and welcoming attitude
  • Articulates and interprets school philosophy
  • Speaks in a tone of voice that relays respect for those spoken with
  • Discusses rules and expectations
  • Reviews broad daily schedule and any changes occurring that day or week
  • Reviews communication from parents and respond appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Disseminates communication proofread for spelling, capitalization, and convention errors prior to sending
  • Addresses parent concerns as advised by Head of Upper School
  • Completes weekly newsletter to disseminate to parents in an effort to increase communication
  • Serves as a contact source for parents and meets with parents upon request
  • Collaborates with parents and clinicians at Palm Valley Child to increase the effectiveness of the facility
  • Aids in organization and planning of Incredible Years parent training nights monthly
  • Records student tardiness or absence daily
  • Records student incidences; provides copies of reports to Head of Upper School
  • Enters New Student/Updated Student Information into Student Management System within 24- hours (business) of being received
  • Manages student files, ensuring most up-to-date academic and medical records are included
  • Completes record requests for students at Palm Valley Child Development, as applicable
  • Conducts ongoing research on activities and assignments that are age, developmental and academically appropriate for students
  • Attends classroom planning meetings to prepare lessons and determines/communicates student needs
  • Update goals and programming based on anticipated and changing curriculum needs
  • Monitors Palm Valley Child Development Center Lesson Plans and newsletters weekly and provides feedback for teachers, communicating concerns with Head of Upper School
  • Completes weekly checks to ensure the integrity of the instruction at Palm Valley Child Development Center
  • Daily rounding to monitor and maintain building organization and cleanliness.
  • Supports Valley Child Development Staff by providing professional development to teachers regarding accommodations and modifications during teacher preplanning days and school in service days
  • Attends Executive Leadership Meetings with Executive Team.
  • Meets weekly with the Head of Upper School to analyze service delivery and instruction at Palm Valley Child Development Center
  • Assist Palm Valley Child Development Team teachers with data assessments and formulation of Prescriptive Educational Plan goals and objectives
  • Assist with monitoring Prescriptive Educational Plan goals
  • Serves as a member of the Palm Valley Child Development Center Data Team to meet with teachers and review student data to determine intervention eligibility
  • Communicates daily with Head of Upper School about concerns or training/resources needed
  • Provides teachers with training using researched based programs to promote learning for all students
  • Serves on the Collage Day School Accreditation Team Meetings when applicable to assist with the submission
  • Serves as a member of the Day Treatment Team, providing academic planning support and guidance to all students in this program
  • Provides daily walk-throughs of classrooms and campus and logs concerns
  • Assists with ordering supplies upon approval from CEO and Head of Upper School
  • Assists with staffing needs of Palm Valley Child Development Center Teachers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to assume a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing) in the course of working with children with developmental disabilities and severe behavior problems.

2. Must be able to lift and carry students in braces and other adaptive equipment.

3. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication

4. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

5. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.

6. Must be physically present at the assigned job site.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

1. SUPERVISED BY: Head of Upper School

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Individual must demonstrate competency across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Collage Day School.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in education, ESE, or allied discipline is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years as a lead in a classroom

RELATED TRAINING:

  • Maintain up-to-date training/certification status with your CDN Staff Credential, CPR and First Aid. Management and other school-provided in-service topics.
  • Must have and maintain a basic knowledge of computer systems and applicable software.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to accept constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, students, and their families as well as the general public, across all age groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to organizational policies and procedures, and assuming authority appropriately.
  • Must maintain adequate personal grooming consistent with professional appe3.!'ance.
  • Must pursue education or training necessary to perform at the level of competence required to incorporate the hardware, software, technologies, and ideas relevant to specific job responsibilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $56,351.45 - $60,000.00 per year
