BRIEF JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with the individual and collective needs of the ages of the population served by Collage Day School, the Vocational Instructor will develop appropriate vocational-based activities and work daily to set vocational-based goals, helping students meet their maximum potential.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Greets student and parent with respectful and welcoming attitude

  • Articulates and interprets school philosophy and mission consistently
  • Speaks in a tone of voice that relays respect for those you are speaking with
  • Discusses daily expectations
  • Reviews rules
  • Reviews broad daily schedule and any changes occurring that day or week
  • Identifies and evaluates the needs of students to develop a vocational curriculum for students with moderate disabilities
  • Presents materials in an organized and concise manner, following lesson plans
  • Provides remedial tasks for students in need of additional support or differentiation
  • Provides enrichment for those who have mastered particular skills
  • Implements classroom wide and individual positive behavioral support systems to increase student engagement and promote an environment conducive to learning
  • Collaborates with school-based administration in order to meet individual student goals as specified in student individual learning plans
  • Works collaboratively with school-based administration to ensure students achieve success with social-emotional learning and independent functioning
  • Inputs student progress data daily into appropriate tracking system
  • Works with various businesses in the community to develop vocational opportunities for students and connect the businesses with Collage Day School
  • Creates task analysis as needed for students to develop pre-requisite skills needed to be successful in the community setting
  • Oversees the implementation of student led campus café
  • Submits lesson plans/concept plan to the administrative team by the designated deadline
  • Conducts ongoing research on activities and assignments that are age, developmental level and academically appropriate for students
  • Attends classroom planning meetings to prepare lessons and determines/communicates student needs
  • Update goals and programming based on student progression
  • Reviews material requests with school-based leadership team
  • Conducts a classroom-based observation of students
  • On a quarterly basis:
  • Collaborates with other Classroom Teachers on student progress, goal mastery and plans for upcoming school year.
  • Attends team and faculty meetings with the leadership team
  • Speaks with school-based leadership team about concerns or training/resources needed
  • Active member on accreditation committee
  • Attends and participates in on-site and offsite professional development trainings as a life-long learner
  • Reviews emails from school-based staff (business hours) and responds within 24-business hours
  • Reviews home notes or communication from parents and responds appropriately and in a timely manner (within 24-business hours)
  • Sends weekly newsletter including lessons, standards covered, and weekly updates
  • Assists with and maintains classroom organization
  • Ensures vocational setting is prepared daily for opportunities including but not limited to adhering to safety and health protocols as well as ensuring classroom is tidy and clean with instructional materials prepared in advance
  • Reports safety and health concerns to the school-based leadership team immediately

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to assume a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing) in the course of working with children with developmental disabilities and severe behavior problems.
  • Must be able to lift and carry students in braces and other adaptive equipment.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication
  • Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job site.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

1. SUPERVISED BY: Associate Head of Upper School

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Individual must demonstrate competency across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Collage Day School.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; State Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

At least 2 years’ experience in a full-time classroom setting.

RELATED TRAINING:

  • Maintain up-to-date training/certification status with your teaching certification, CPR and First Aid. Management and other school-provided in-service topics.
  • Must have and maintain a basic knowledge of computer systems and applicable software.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to accept constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, students, and their families as well as the general public, across all age groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to organizational policies and procedures, and assuming authority appropriately.
  • Must maintain adequate personal grooming consistent with professional appearance.
  • Must pursue education or training necessary to perform at the level of competence required to incorporate the hardware, software, technologies, and ideas relevant to specific job responsibilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
