Description

Coburn Technologies, Inc. designs, engineers, manufactures and services computer-integrated optical lens processing systems and their related consumables and supplies. Our products are used in making prescription lenses, and then coating and shaping them to fit into eyeglass frames. We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Engineering team!

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a key project team member of the product development process for new, state-of-the-art lens manufacturing products. The Senior Electrical Engineer participates in a variety of activities including conceptualization, design, CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, cost analysis, engineering documentation, and process implementation of complex motion control based systems. The successful candidate will be passionate and highly innovative about new product development, delivering results, willing and enthusiastic for accepting responsibility and accountability and have an ownership mentality, and be recognized as a source of expertise. The Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate with various other teams including Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Support and Sales. The Senior Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

Essential Functions

  • Define electrical and control architecture of new products.
  • Hands-on participation in the design of controlled motion systems including the selection, testing, and integration of systems controllers, motors, encoders, motor drivers, power supplies, cables, etc. 
  • Identify and develop necessary test instruments and procedures to support production and QC of products. 
  • Develop and document product assembly and testing procedures. 
  • CAD modeling for NPD and other engineering documentation related to new product development and engineering changes. 
  • Provides technical product training to customers and various internal personnel, including manufacturing and service.
  • Provides status updates of ongoing projects and future projects.
  • Work with outside testing laboratories to obtain and maintain product compliance certifications. 
  • Maintain active role on continuous improvement teams.

Requirements

  • Hands on experience developing automated systems.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used motion control technologies and precision positioning mechanisms.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills in order to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, management and other stakeholders.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills, Solidworks preferred.
  • Highly innovative, curious and creative. Driven to find and solve problems in unique ways.
  • Proven ability to work and collaborate with high performing teams and interact with all facets of the company.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, plus 6-8 years of experience in the design and development of motion-controlled capital equipment. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. 

Travel

Some occasional travel, including overnight stay, may be required. Engineers may be asked to accompany a product to a customer site for installation, testing, training, troubleshooting and repair.

Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000/ year
