Coastal Vision Medical Group is Hiring an Ophthalmic Technician Near Newport, CA

Coastal Vision Medical Group is a premier Newport Beach eye care provider. We are seeking a Full-Time Ophthalmic Technician. The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see attending physician (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.

Technician/Scribe. COA/COT preferred, however also a good opportunity for pre-med or pre-optometry students. This position will be responsible for daily patient care and working with our in- house optometrist with post-operative care and specialty contact lens fitting. May scribe and assist surgeons as well. Position requires good understanding of patient care, communication, orientation to detail and teamwork. Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Ability to build rapport with patients and provide great customer service.
  • Performing technical workups, patient histories, and special testing.
  • Assist with specialty contact lens fitting, lens orders/tracking.
  • OCT, Topo, Pentacam, Optos, A/R, HVF, applanation tonometer, lensometer, MR.
  • Triage, refill prescriptions, respond to phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, changes in visual acuity, elevated extraocular pressure, or blood pressure and communicating results to attending physician.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
  • Performs set standard number of patient workups based on established times while maintaining quality of customer service.
  • Maintains stock in exam room in accordance with standard inventory and Physician preferences.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
  • Ability to be cross-trained and assist in other functional areas as needed travel between offices as required.
  • Perform additional duties as needed by management.

Preferred:

  • COA/COT certified or 2 years' experience.
  • Experience in ophthalmology or optometry.
  • Scribe, EHR/EMR, Microsoft office skills.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/Vietnamese) *Preferred
  • Alcon Laser Certifications a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to write legibly and clearly communicate via phone/email.
  • Must be able to type quickly to keep up with flow of clinic.
  • Must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment.
  • Must be willing to travel to other locations and have reliable transportation.
