Job Details
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is responsible for applying technical and leadership skills to guide accounting practices and recording transactions. As the Non-profit Accounting Manager, you will play a key role in managing the financial operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial reporting, grant reporting, month-end closing processes, and payroll and Benefits management. The successful candidate will have experience in a complex organization and demonstrate a balanced communication style and strong critical thinking skills.

The position will report to and work closely with the Director of finance & administration. The Accounting Manager must thrive in a deadline-oriented and evolving workplace. In addition, this role partners with other Team members in the tactical implementation of the client’s mission and commitments to meeting the organization’s strategic plan.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting and Reporting
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and petty cash.
  • Oversee the preparation of grant budgets and financial reports for submission to funding agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and deadlines.
  • Lead the month-end close process, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and complete financial data.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the organization's annual budget.
  • Provide financial forecasts and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with auditors during annual audits.
  • Support Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for accounting policy and regulations and collaborate change management with the Financial Controller.
  • Support timely tax compliance, contract review, and financial filings.
  • Oversee Payroll & Benefits Accounting & Management
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local protocols including legal requirements, and collaborate with the Financial Controller on interpretation of new and existing legislation.
Grants
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely accounting and recording of Grants.
  • Collaborates with Grant program leaders to prepare and implement grant and funding proposal budgets.
  • Review contract spending and amendment changes recorded by the Grant Accountant.
  • Review grant and contract billings.
  • Reviews tracking of financial reporting requirements for funders to ensure accurate financial reporting and funder compliance.
Audit Activities
  • Collaborates with the Director of Finance & Administration in PBC (Prepared by Client) schedule and report preparation annual, external financial statement and uniform guidance audits, tax compliance (Form 990), and UFR.
General
  • Supports implementation of new accounting-related software.
  • Collaborated in the creation and maintenance of training materials.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Financial Controller.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of a BS in Accounting from an accredited US University. A current CPA license and MS. Finance or MBA are highly desirable.
  • 8-10 years experience in accounting & auditing experience in a nonprofit setting or CDFI clients
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel, including advanced formulas, Data tables, and Data concentration), and comfortable with learning new technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and regulations including US GAAP and GAO regulations and reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations like 2CFR 200, NICRA, ASC606, and ASC 842.
  • Experience with CDFIs or lending institutions is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, with the capacity to train/mentor effectively with diverse individuals and constituents, in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization as well as outside contacts such as auditors, financial institution representatives, investors, board members, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in assessing priorities, organizing, and operating in a flexible manner in a fast-paced environment while retaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated track record with leading financial reporting and audits for either a division or significant program area of a nonprofit organization or foundation.
  • Working knowledge of integrated project management and accounting
