REPORTS TO: Director of Development

DEPARTMENT: Development

STATUS: Full-time, Exempt

SALARY: $65,000-$75,000

OVERVIEW:

Cleveland Play House (CPH), recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award, seeks an experienced, self-motivated fundraising professional, with a keen focus on securing individual gifts and implementing department systems and processes. For over a century, the Cleveland Play House has carved a unique and beloved identity in the Northeast Ohio community. With new Managing, Artistic, and Development Directors, this is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to help shape a new chapter for CPH. Anchored by dedicated staff and board leadership, the Deputy Director - Individual Giving will bring creativity, experience, and innovation to the fundraising activities of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A member of the Development team and reporting to the Director of Development, the Deputy Director - Individual Giving will be responsible for leading and supporting the direction, operation, and execution of Cleveland Play House's fundraising initiatives, with a focus on securing individual gifts. They will be responsible for planning, executing, and achieving both long and short term contributed income goals for CPH through the annual fund, special events, and major gifts. The Deputy Director - Individual Giving will be an enthusiastic spokesperson for CPH's mission, vision, and values for both internal and external constituents. They will work closely with the Director of Development to expand and deepen existing donor relationships while implementing creative approaches to expand the pool of Cleveland Play House's supporters, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, the Managing and Artistic Directors, and CPH staff. They will be instrumental in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of individual donors and major gift prospects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • ORG/DEPT
    • Participate in organization-wide anti-racism work and incorporate an anti-racist lens into daily practice.
    • Serve as a thought partner with the Director of Development, particularly as it relates to individual giving fundraising strategy and implementation.
    • Supervise the Development Associate and oversee their primary duties (reporting, event logistics, gift processing and documentation, acknowledgement letters, management of endowments reports, Board gift tracking, etc.)
    • Support Executive Leadership as relates to fundraising by proactively helping to schedule donor interactions, preparing briefing notes in advance, and following up afterward to collect/record/implement notes and next steps
  • INDIVIDUAL GIVING
    • Manage a portfolio of 100-125 individual donors and major gift prospects; while discrete from the Director of Development's portfolio of individuals, the Deputy Director - Individual Giving's portfolio will be managed in collaboration with the Director of Development, and vice versa.
    • Conduct moves management (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship).
    • Provide oversight for the structuring of donor benefits.
    • Maintain detailed records of donor interactions.
    • Develop proposals and structure agreements for all major gifts (including planned and endowment).
    • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing, Creative Director, and Director of Development to conceive and create individual donor appeals and communications (including print and electronic) with administrative support from the Development Associate.
  • BOARD
    • Actively participate in Board Development Committee meetings.
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Board members; co-lead their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with Director of Development.
    • Support the identification of future Board of Director members and advise with regards to recruitment strategy.
  • EVENTS
    • Lead the planning and fundraising for key donor cultivation and solicitation events (such as Tech Nights, Opening Night dinners, and other special events), in collaboration with the Development Associate who manages event logistics.
    • Support the Director of Development in the fundraising strategy and implementation of the annual gala, primarily with regards to individual donors and prospects.
  • FINANCIAL & CRM
    • Provide oversight for the tracking, reporting, projecting, and reconciling for individual gifts.
    • Actively and strategically utilize CRM AudienceView for documentation, analysis, and moves management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or three years progressively responsible experience as a development professional.
  • Successful track record in direct fundraising, managing campaigns, communications, and working with volunteers. Knowledgeable about planned giving, major gift fundraising, and event planning.
  • Must possess a broad institutional perspective, collaborative mindset, and excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated record managing complex issues and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented workplace and an evolving customer service-oriented environment.
  • Positive attitude with excellent grace-under-pressure.
  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate the needs of supervisor.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently; to create/modify/implement systems and processes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. (CPH uses AudienceView.)
  • Understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices, and the ability to interact effectively with people of different races, cultures, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends for select fundraising events, such as opening nights, tech nights, and the annual gala.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In-depth experience in campaign management and fundraising is preferred. Five years of experience in theater development/fundraising and versed in the performing arts and arts education is preferred.

The salary is based on qualifications and experience with a range of $65,000-$75,000. Benefits package includes: group health insurance to which CPH contributes a portion of the employee's premium, group dental and vision plans. Paid vacation, company and discretionary holidays as well as the opportunity to participate in a 401(K) plan. Parking is available at employee's cost.
