Clearwater Paper is Hiring a Senior Controls Engineer Near Shelby, NC

Description

Where you will work:The Shelby location is Clearwater Paper's newest consumer products facility, boasting two paper mills located on 400 acres with over 600 talented employees. We are proud to produce a variety of high-quality premium and ultra-premium bathroom tissue, household paper towels, and napkins for major retail outlets throughout the United States. Our state-of-the-art technology includes 10 converting lines, 54 laser-guided vehicles, and 2 paper machines producing large quantities at high speed. Shelby, North Carolina is a quaint community located between bustling downtown Charlotte and scenic Asheville. The town is a stone's throw from Gastonia, Belmont, and Kings Mountain. Shelby's art, music, and government community take place in the Uptown Shelby historic district. Within uptown Shelby, the large Courthouse Square is surrounded by local businesses and a variety of restaurants. The local pavilion hosts weekly Farmer's markets and weekend concerts. What you will do:

Develop, Troubleshoot & Maintain Industrial Control Systems

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for all plant PLC/DCS/HMI and associated automation & industrial control systems
  • Serves as subject matter expert for controls safety devices including safety PLCS
  • Develop and implement new additions or enhancements to process control systems
  • Develop/Modify/Troubleshoot DCS systems, PLC ladder logic, and HMI Systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of low voltage (<480V) electrical systems, instrumentation/calibrations, and Industrial control equipment
  • Perform PID loop tunning in a process environment
  • Develops industrial control standards and procedures
  • Ensures both internal and vendor compliance to standards and procedures through routine audits and observations
  • Performs safety risk assessments on both existing controls and incoming new equipment
  • Solicit proposals for upgrades for obsolete controls
  • Solicit proposals for new technology and automation
  • Create and implement advanced process control systems (APC)
  • Configure historical collection systems
  • Provide third level troubleshooting support to maintenance for controls related failures

Project Management & Support

  • Lead CAPEX and Expense projects that are Industrial control focused
  • Support CAPEX and Expense type projects of other engineers who require controls expertise
  • Develop specifications and purchase industrial control equipment
  • Assist in development of implementation plans for installation of equipment
  • Monitor vendor and internal implementations
  • Supervise testing of installed equipment to guarantee adequate performance
  • Develop and evaluate RFPs and RFQs

Leadership

  • Role has no direct reports
  • Provide training related to automation and industrial control to Engineers, Instrument Electricians, and Controls Technicians
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to junior Controls Engineers and Engineer Interns

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • 5 years of experience in an industrial setting
  • Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment
  • Ability to work with dirt, noise, odor, and temperature extremes
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors. Paid time off will include vacation days, personal days, and company holidays.
