Overview:
The Supervisor for Remediation Group is responsible for the supervision of Heavy Equipment Operators and Environmental Technicians, including ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are adhered to, completion of all corporate and project-specific paperwork, and job requirements (site management, budget, and schedule) are met.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, and processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and regulations. This specifically includes compliance with Clean Harbors' corporate policy regarding facial hair. Must have the competency to complete online mandated health and safety/corporate/regulatory training via a company-owned mobile device.
  • Works with the Project Manager when working with Clients, to ensure customer satisfaction and to resolve any pending complaints or issues.
  • Participate in joint calls with Project Manager and maintain a professional image when dealing with customers.
  • The ability to wear and properly use a variety of Levels A, B, C & D personal protective Equipment (PPE). This includes respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection in multiple number combinations
  • Manage and documentation of field activities for remediation projects under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. Documentation of activities in a log book and relaying changes in conditions and/or change orders to the Project Manager. Assisting the Project Manager in the preparation of field directives and change orders.
  • Works in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions: including extreme heat and cold while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment. Works in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive.
  • Works extended (> 8 hrs.) time periods. Extensive nationwide traveling is mandatory with expected durations of up to six (6) weeks. Travel by air will often be required. The employee must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Clean Harbors light duty file. Requires speaking, listening, and understanding English; color determination, depth perception, clarity of vision, and 20/20 eyesight, corrected or uncorrected. Note that in emergency response situations these periods can extend beyond 8 hours, up to 12‐24 hrs. Because of the emergency response and operational nature of the position, a continuing condition of employment is that the applicant/candidate acknowledges and agrees to be on‐call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and on occasion will require work during weekends and holidays.
  • Performs emergency response activities including, but not limited to chemical and water spills, etiological and biological contamination, and equipment decontamination.
  • The ability to use a mobile device and a laptop with Microsoft Office for completion of daily project record keeping and corresponding via email and text.
  • The supervisor may be required to manage and oversee small to midsize, technically complex projects involving waste site clean-up and construction, building, and equipment decontamination, and demolition.
  • Acts as an agent of business and is involved with developing relationships with key customers and understanding customer issues.
  • Climbs ladders, scaffolding, and into and out of trucks, tanks, and various other containers.
  • Act as a mentor to Lead Operators, Heavy Equipment Operators, and Environmental Technicians.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of the Clean Harbors business.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of environmental, civil construction, and demolition work; knowledge of Federal, state, and local environmental regulations as well as Clean Harbors policies and procedures related to field operations; Knowledge of various types of equipment; Proficiency in the operation of a mobile device and Windows-based Microsoft Office applications.
  • ASC or BS/BA Preferred; environmental, civil construction, and demolition experience, emergency response training, and equipment operation experience.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 10 years experience in environmental civil construction, and demolition experience.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience (preferred).
REQUIRED LICENSE(S)/ENDORSEMENT(S):
  • Complete confined space entry (CSE) training. 40 Hour OSHA Training and Annual Refresher, RCRA, DOT, Zurich Safe Driver Training, and other company-mandated training are required.
  • No serious moving violations in the past 3 years, i.e., Reckless driving, Driving to endanger, Opening alcohol containers.
  • *Clean Driving record, for the purposes of CHESI, includes No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years; No DUI/DWI in the past 3 years; No preventable accidents in the past year; No more than 2 preventable accidents in the last 3 years.
  • Training to operate the equipment.
  • A valid driver's license is required as a continuing condition of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, and crouching in confined spaces;
  • Requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination, and clarity of vision at 2 feet or more (with or without lenses).
