City of West Palm Beach is Hiring a Sustainability Program Coordinator Near Beach, FL

Under general supervision, provides support for the City of West Palm Beach sustainability initiative; and performs other related duties as assigned.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. Initiates, coordinates, and implements programs related to the following: carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, green model home, green job training programs, green building principles (e.g. Florida Green Building Council, LEED), transportation, environmentally preferable purchasing and other sustainable/conservation subjects, program management and metrics, and curriculum development for public outreach, public education, and business workshops.
2. Works with the Sustainability Team, including consultants and community partners, to develop short term and long-term strategic plans, recommending policy and organizational changes needed to advance sustainability initiatives.
3. Conducts research on relevant issues and best practices, develop and implements program policies and procedures.
4. Assists in the development, implementation and updates a system and scorecard for reporting progress of sustainability plan to City Administration, City Commission, Citizen’s Advisory Boards, and the general public.
5. Develops and conducts sustainability-related outreach programs to City government, businesses, and residents.
6. Works with City Department Sustainability Liaisons in developing and implementing activities to reach established goals for reducing the City’s carbon footprint and adopting sustainable principles for their department/division.
7. Assists in developing and monitoring the Office of Sustainability annual operating budget and grant funding directives.
8. Prepares updates for reporting to the Mayor’s Office, City Administration, City Commission, and the communications/media relations committee on program accomplishments.
9. Coordinates sustainability website and updates information on a regular basis or as required.
10. Assists with planning and implementing annual sustainability summit for stakeholders, government and the general public.
11. Plans, participates, and makes program presentations at local events to leverage City’s relationships within the county and region.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary

Minimum Salary (Pay grade 61):

$64,827

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Management, Sustainable Land Planning or related field (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and four (4) years relevant work experience in the area of sustainability program management, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

Special Driving Requirements

  • Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations.
  • Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges.
  • Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

Education Requirements
: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
  • a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
  • an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
  • an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.

State of Emergency:
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
